July 2012 Custom Content Challenge: Player Customization

For body changes, I always prefer head aligned VFX. The players can't change the effect by unequipping, and they don't limit player equipment options.

For costume items... yes equipment makes sense.
For actual ears... head-aligned VFX.

By "necklace", I'd meant neck part of the body.  I've actually got the human female one made already, TAD's tiger ears added to a "standard" neck, though the plt is being annoyingly unco-operative, and I might have to fashion a custom one to allow for both skinned part and hair.

Yup thats what i meant too '<img'>

Test ingame by making 2 immortal npc with cat ears with opposing factions for an eternal "catfight".

I seem to recall with neck based halos that they didnt like to stay put, discouraging me from making things like mask "necklaces"...

If im wrong and they work fine, awesome, colorable cat ears '<img'>

If not, try a robe id say '<img'>

@Hen

Agreed '<img'>

VFX are the way to go, they are of course more work, and only have one color scheme each (tho recolors id think would be done the standard way)

Clothing based are less prefered for PCs unless your going for "cosplay" costumes, but might be preferable in some cases for npcs, as FB mentioned, they have PLT support...

Carcerian, adding to your list a request:

Cloaks:
- some different adventurer gear options. Q has a great backpack, but some different styles like large slung sack, woven basket etc... would be very nice.

Halfling heads:
- child heads of various races. (but this is of more value to me as a DM)

Forearms:
- a range of bracelets, and bracers for each race
Feet and shins:
- some more combinations that make for good footwear. Occassionally there are some good looking options like the sandals with socks. But we could use many more in this category.
Belts:
- same as above. need some more variety of actual belts.

I think I'd be tempted to try making them as a necklace so that they could take advantage of a plt.  The aligned VFX have far more available slots, but need one pre race, gender, plus colour, to fully work as ears.
If TAD doesn't mind, I'd be curious about trying that with the tiger ears, though I don't expect I'd get anything too good out of it.  Moreso for practice.

The main advantages of VFX is that they stack with everything, while players are limited to 1 neck. Neks are already over used I think... for cloaks, back weapons, halo, jewels...
Also, the armor neck will override the body neck so if the player equip an armor that it having its own neck part they will loose their ears :/

doing the pipes as a VFX rather than an equippable with an emitter??  If done as an equippable, the animations from the social phenotype might work well with it. then the smoke head aligned vfx simply needs to be added?

For now we're putting the pipes as head-aligned VFX (sheesh, that's getting annoying to type :-P HaV from now on, thank you very much =).

There will be equippable pipes, but the items will be empty models equipped in the off-hand (you need at least one hand free to smoke). The pipe-smoke HaV will line up with the mouth (exhale). We're doing it this way mostly because there are no pheno's I know of for the hand to mouth motion.

Eventually, we may modify the whole setup with a hand model (the placeholder will be in place ;-) and a proper smoking pheno. Bit much for the start, though...

How about a cigar, speaking of smokables '<img'>

Either a vfx in the mouth for wolverine/sarge tuff-guy types, or held in the hand by gentlemen and mercenary leaders...

Could be in lit and unlit versions, perhaps with placable/inventory support. (Cigar Box, Humador, Uncut Cigars, Cigar Cutter, Ashtray w and w/o smoking cigar, possibly as same model's on/off  states)

Oh yeah, lighters/tinderboxes/flint-and-steel, cuz not everyone can cast burning hands '<img'>

               <makes...>

I'm rather hoping to coerce, er, encourage Cestus to making a stogie, also. They'll all use the same smoke HaVFX, so it's quite a modular approach.

But I actually only gave him about 8 hours at the forge for the dragonflies, and he's a bit miffed. <*and* you ran out of ale...>
Er, yes. Three tuns in a month. *No one* can drink that much! <heh. wrong, obviously>
Heh. Anyway, just keep the stogie on the D L for now. At least until the ship comes in from Bayberry with some Gold Reserve.

<...hushing motions>
