OTR: a reindeer as henesua suggested has my vote.

You know... Claifornia's Tule Elk are kinda a cross between all those things, and yet have the typical Cervid looking head. Overall they are shaggier and bigger. These guys got moved from Tule County when the inland lake was drained and they were nearly extinct. Then they got moved to some BLM land near Clear Lake above Cache Creek. They overpopulated. So a portion of the population got moved again, and now they overpopulate Point Reyes.

'Posted

I wish I lived to see them before the Southern portion of the San Joaquin valley was drained. I love marshes and marsh creatures. Oh well. I have seen them in Point Reyes where they look ot of place. Like giant deer without a proper marsh full of tules to move between. Cool animal, nevertheless.

Edit... just realized that I have seen all three of these animals up close in California. Such an awesome place to live for that sort of thing.

Reindeer and better-looking-than-CEP fox models exist in 'Northern Animals' hak somewhere on the vault.  I'll try to find the link when I have time.

               <wrapping up warm...>

@ Klatchain: You're probably thinking of Big Bene's Creatures of the Nordic Forests

'Posted

I agree that the foxes are better, but they are still dogs. They need slimmer legs, bigger ears, fluffier tail and cat-like anims... IMO, of course :-)

I am using the Nordic Forests content, but when you have OTR on the case... well... does it matter that the content exists somewhere?

Look at those deer!

Ok, here's the deer kit.  Comes with 3 deer variants, 3 base brown skin (a & b are the same, c does not have horn shadow on scalp), a testing module and model compiler which will compile them nicely.

'Posted

Can someone grab this and confirm it works for them?

Otherwise...have at it!

Edit: Fixed download link, now hosted at Bioware.

Thanks, Carcerian!

NOTE: Anyone who is considering modding these, but especially changing the model in any way, should load them up in the tester module and make sure they are acceptable.  And then compile them and make sure the output product also meets their expectations.  I.e. kick the tires before you invest a huge amount of time dong (whatever).

There are definitely some kinks in the forelimbs when running, maybe just the right front leg.  This is stuff I doubt most players would ever notice but I feel compelled to mention since you're all modders.

Also, for folks who wind up doing antler work it's probably going to be easiest to just take a female, apply the male skin and make/tweak a pair of antlers but do them as regular mesh an attach them to the skull, not as skin mesh.

I may not have time to do a mule deer so I don't want anyone to think I staked a claim on that or any other variation.

And post lots of WIP screenshots if you do make variants!  '<img'>

Everything so far is looking quite...awesome.

Maybe I should get around to picking something to make for this month's theme.

got a suggestion for you.

was it you who created an flowing liquid placeable to add fresh look to the water? think you were - you could create something similar:
- "fish jumping in the water" placeable
- "shark fin traveling in water" placeable
- "crocodiles lurking in water" placeable

and when speaking of crocodiles, an crocodile path walkable water tiles (remeber that game you have to cross water on crocodiles ?)

':wizard:'

I took a concept model by goeneg (spelling?), modified the speed (making some slower options) and created alternate colors of each of those (slime and black for over lava).

fish jumping in water - the jumping fish would be easy enough, but timing emitters (which you'd need for the ripples on the water) is still a problem for me, which I don't have time to fully teach myself yet.

shark fin in water (possibly circling) - the fin would be easy enough...actually, I think you'd want the whole shark model in there, with just the fin sticking out.  Just take one of the default shark models (found in patch 1.67, if I recall)...a little removal of animals and skinmesh modifiers, then animate as a placeable...would be a good exercise for some of your newer model-makers out there, I think.

crocodiles in water - sounds good, but I think we need an improved croc creature model first

I did decide on something to make, taken from the ones I suggested in the initial theme description.  And yeah, still lots of ideas there for folks. '<img'>

Now all those chickens will have a place to stay up off the ground at night, and farmers will have a handy door on one side to get eggs out (side door doesn't actually open, it's just there for looks).

BTW, I highly recommend the chichen reskin that was done several years ago.  Big improvement over the default texture.  It's on the Vault.
