CC request - Tails
« on: May 03, 2012, 06:07:05 pm »

               Realizing if you play a demon blooded creature, or just an unusual race, your options are very limited. Who else is tired of the spade tail model? Here's some ideas....

               Is it really hard to make these? I'd think you could just use a base tail that's already created and modify it...

               <wagging his...>

Like most things, how hard it is depends on how much you want to do.

I rather like the idea of new wings and tails (see the CC Challenge thread for my suggestion :-), but I'd also like to do them a bit more in depth than a simple re-texture. In fact, I want to do them with a mixture of skin-mesh (tail) and dangly-mesh (tuft at the end).

The skin-mesh part ties into my Metallic Dragon make-over, which is a very high priority but low urgency project for me.

The Dangly-mesh stuff is something I still need to learn. Add in my other projects (including paying work :-P ) and I'm not willing to commit to anything beyond the CCC and the Vault at the moment.

So that's *my* excuse :-P

               I want to do some as well, as i really like the concept art (esp the spiked tail).

Opening a a few tails with NwMax it didn't look too complicated if you use a generic tail for a base, some tails have no animations at all, while others number 2k+, so complications can vary i'm sure. Clothing based tails are an option as well (belt or pelvis based like the early ones). Good for npcs who dont move around a lot, tho may not look as nice for pcs... (tho they can have dangle too)

(Same goes for snake-whip, its coiled, and has an insane amount of ani frames, tho supposedly morphing an existing one is certainly possible, i imagine it being easiest to have one with a slightly open mouth, tho the masterwork one would have a snapping mouth... then again, whip animations are so fast u would never see it execept in screenies. On the other hand... using DLA Lisa's cat-o-9-tails with a bit of dangle to make a hydra whip or a tentacle rod... hmmm.....)

               Might as well add this to the monthly challenge list then. Here's two new design inspirations.

               One idea for wings and tails that has yet to be done but might be a cool possibility is the VFX route, i think if your can anchor vfx horns to a head node you could also add wings to a torso and tails to a pelvis, or say tufts of hair or tiny wings to shins or feet (for boots of flying) etc...

If all wings and tails were handled by way of vfx it would certianly make ridable mounts and scaling a lot easier (as the wing and tail slots would no longer be needed for player parts...)

               <pulling out...>

Two drawbacks to VFX... animations (limited to start, persist and fade - but they're called something else...) and odd interactions with fog and other effects.

<...tufts of hair>

               If I were able to do this, I'd look at the dragon tails that were pulled off the half dragons from sigil, and see about reshaping them and adding textures. They have very nice animations already.

               Old post, but I am going to be seeing about doing some of these tails, or at least some similar. If I have time, that is. Things are getting thrown onto my plate, that I didn't anticipate. But either way, I like the tails with the tufts on the end, I always kind of liked that idea. So expect that above any of the others.
