Creature shadows beeing cut within a tile
« on: April 20, 2012, 10:49:47 pm »

While working on that "road down a hill"-texture (see http://social.biowar.../index/11481612), I stumbled upon a strange issue with shadows beeing cut of within a hill-tile:
'Image

This is the "Worm's seasonal forest sand hill/slope-tile".
This happens at any place on any of the hill/slope-tiles at the same hight.

I have not tested, if this also shows up in other seasonal forest tilesets and/or if this is an issue with Worm's or a general NWN-issue (or a problem with my graphic hardware).

Any ideas to the reason? And is there an easy way to fix this?

I think, Bannor explained it in a different topic:

Bannor Bloodfist wrote...

... but it also has the base of the entire tileset raised so that nothing drops below zero z, to make shadows work correctly.  Bioware designed their engine to NOT cast shadows below zero z, and this means anything that should cast a shadow down into a pit etc, the shadow gets cut at the zero z level.
