Roofers?
« on: April 19, 2012, 06:09:58 pm »

I used to play 3/4 iso view games like the Ultima series, and loved it... I swore I would never play a real 3D game.

Times change, people change.

I hate top down iso gaming now, and I really hate that the original tilesets of NWN were designed around the iso gaming conventions: Low and badly compressed terrain features like the squat buildings in the city exterior set and the flat-top trees of the rural set.

I have seen a few bio-roofer overwrites and overrides. The cave sets are the only ones I think have really done a good job of it so far, and Zwerkules' BioCave set is one of the best. The other bio-tile roofers I have seen are less spectacular. Most of them use shortcuts to get their results, such as mirroring the walls and floors. That works for some tilesets or individual tiles, but is not an all purpose solution, imo.

NWNCQ (?) was a well intended project. I played some of the original campaign using it. Some of what they did was very clever, but some of the tilesets and textures lost  their potential grandeur.

With all that said, is there a secret trove of good bio-roofer overwrites or quality alternates?

I have retextured the city interior tileset and the beholder caves and planned to add roofs to both, but I don't have the time to do so before I've finished the medieval city.

I agree with you on NWNCQ. I really liked it at first blush then over time have I used it less and less. I'm not using it at all in Arnheim although I had originally intended to use a number of the NWNCQ tile sets for it.

Zwerkules Biomines is great as you noted and is the only great over write that I know of.
I have not looked very closely at the work by Neverroofers.  Nor at Hellfire's caves. You might want to search those out.

Regarding non-overwriting tilesets with roofs:Fried Eyes bugfixing to the Sigil tilesets is highly recommended
Project Q Related:
  • DLA Sewer
  • Six's Sewers
  • Six's Rural Interior
  • Tom banjo's Cellar tileset (available inside Q and elsewhere)
  • Ship Interior (i don't know if this released outside of Project Q)
classic Dungeons and Versatile Dungeons by Maxam are great.
Worm's Fantasy Interiors are good. A few bugs here and there mar an otherwise top notch set of tiles.
Diademus' underdark spider tileset is one of my favorites.
Senememnlas's Underdark is very nice, but I have not used it yet.
I still use Chandigar's Gothic Interiors for opulent mansions...

The more I think about this the more I can come up with.
