CCC Demo World
« on: April 13, 2012, 12:09:35 pm »

               Somewhere within these pages I'm sure I read a discussion about a CCC Demo World but there were technical dificulties because visitors would need every CCC hak to log in. I was unable to find the original so please excuse me starting a new thread.

I'm wondering if This would solve the problem.  I've played on the world where this was developed (Pope_Leo's "The Awakening") and you simply type in a code thingy to the chat bar to tell the mod that you have the required hak (even I can work it! ). There are many areas that you can play with no haks at all, then, type in the code and enter areas requiring custom content.

                <setting out...>

The original idea came from Borden.

I'm pretty interested in it, also, but have a bit less than zero time to commit to it (and no server resource, anyway).

However, I've been thinking that a multiple module/server model might work better... Core area is hak-less, portals take you to various themed, hak-required modules. The idea here being that you can update the themed modules without taking down the entire world. One more step toward divorcing content from framework.

(Edit:P.s. Your link doesn't work for me. www.nwnx.org can't be found)

               Whats the ppoint of no-hak requirements when you wouldn't see anyhing without them? In fact, tilesets and baseitems will crash client if he doesn't have the required files. So players will actually have to download it, better would be to make a all-months-hak and update it each month when new stuff is released than this.

I see this hak feature usefull in the ordinary PW where you have few tilesets in special quest/high lvl areas etc, but not in the "promote module" which purpose is to show all CCC contributions.

               <shifting...>

The core, no-hak area would be a stable "lobby" for PCs and DMs to log into.

Themed areas (being in a separate mod) would have the specific haks/content produced/being produced for that month. So a PC could log in and take the portal into the Jan Rogues mod and take it for a spin without having any of the alpha/beta/RC hak content for Oriental & Elven.

Meanwhile, the CC Makers working on Elven could log in and test out *that* mod, without impacting the PC over in Rogues. When updating any single month/theme, only *that* mod would go offline.

Edit: Also, the way the portal to a new mod works, I don't think it will allow transfer if it can not load the mod (missing haks). So the hypothetical Rogue wouldn't be able to port to Elven... unless she had the hak. Could be wrong there, though.

Am I making any sense?
