CEP Underdark Skybox & Skybox Suggestion Needed
« on: April 09, 2012, 01:57:04 pm »

For those of you who haven't used this skybox, do so. I added it last night and it added a whole new depth of dimension and atmosphere. I don't know who created it but it is freakin' awesome!

On another note, I need a suggestion. In my underdark area there is an old, crumbled castle full of undead. Is there a skybox that would work in this area to add more depth? I have the atmosphere looking sickly pea green (kind of old sewer like) and got to thinking a skybox of some kind, maybe to make the rooms look grander and bigger, might help.

Also, I am using for the outside of the castle the same trick they used for a castle in HoTU (drow homes mashed together) but it just doesn't fit with the inside. Is there something else I could use to make it look more like an old, crumbled castle?

Thanks!

I happened to mention on the old CEP forum that I'd made a PDF showing all the skyboxes available as of CEP 2.3 and was asked to share it, perhaps it might be of some help. You can find it here.

Try NS_Jungle_Ruins, in a green environment the canopy should not be so visible, just an idea.

On the Custom Placeables Pallete, look under both Dungeon/Other and Miscellaneous Interior for the following "ceiling" placeables; Crypt Roof, Dungeon Roof, Mine Roof, Sewer Roof, Castle Roof and City Roof. These placeables are transparent when viewed from above, but have textures mimicing roofs/ceilings when looking up. I.e., most players will have to adjust their camera angles to notice them.

Kalbaern, I used the ceiling placeables you recommended. They didn't give the grand hall look I thought I wanted. Instead they made the room look closed in which looked better.

If someone had the time or inclination, placeable ceilings that aren't flat would add another dimension to inside areas.

Despite using alot of CEP stuff in my own building, I look to other (usually better) haks for most of my non-wilderness areas. Maxam's Versatile Dungeon and classic Dungeon are among my favorites.CTP, Project Q, NWNCQ and many others can also help round out your choices. Don't be afraid to experiment. '<img'>

Another CEP option (not having seen what you are building) might be to use some of the CEP placeable walls either atop of or overlapping your tileset walls to gain extra height and then raise the placeable ceilings to match.
