Tail wagging the dog
« on: December 11, 2011, 08:56:39 pm »

                <winging an attempt...>

Background: I want to use the tail and wing nodes to make our Snow Fury customizable... So I started with a stone elemental, loaded in the b_ab.mdl to grab the wing and tail nodes. Renamed the chain from the base->rootdummy->pelvis_g->tail.

The problem: The tail and wing slots in the appearance tab in the toolset are still greyed out.  How do I get wing & tail options on a creature model?

<...to get a little tail>

               You need to edit the MODELTYPE field in appearance.2da so that WT is listed as well. Assuming you used one of the elemental lines as a base, the MODELTYPE field should read "SWT"

               <smacks forehead...>

<i told ya!>
Heh. Saying "it's something simple you're too stupid to see" isn't the same thing as telling me to change the modeltype...
Though I *did* know that...
I was just too stupid to see it. <told ya *raven chuckles* >

Grrr...

Thanks, P. Appreciate it.

<...a lot>

               Seems to be from Everquest - and roughly translated means "The Mailed Fist of God" - though there is something of a double meaning for the Guild that bears this name.

Not sure if it is related here...

                I thank ye fer the compliments *rare grin*

I did abandon them nested cylinders fer the snow aura. Too many issues :-/ So I remade it as a pseudo-dome 10m radius and height. Looks much better everywhere but zoomed all the way out and up (there bein' a hole at the top, so the texture animates sweetly, don't ya know). There's a slight seam visible in the animesh directly behind the critter, but ya don't notice it so bad... Annoys me summat, but thet old wizard's joggin' me elbow so I'd best move on.

What I find mighty interestin' is that the mouse-over glow *doesn't* follow me modified geometry of the creature itself, but only the original parts... fer them as want ta hide creatures from thet sly ol' tab key... might could be a possibility there summat.

Now ta get me "Cold Eyes" effect workin'

If you want, you can swipe the eye emitters from my water elemental (either in the "classic elementals" package or in the upcoming underwater CCC release).  They're a cool glowing blue.

Thank you, AD :-) Would you happen to have a cool glowing blue eyes effect with white fog blowing back from them? =)

What we envision is a cold version of the flaming eyes I saw somewhere (yours?), with a white glow and hoar-fog instead of red w/smoke... We have the monkeyes model and the whteyes model to start with, but I've been looking for a small fog emitter to add.

But you can be sure I'll look at your blue-eyed wonder.

               The eyes I use in the water (and air, come to think of it) are recolored, repositioned ones from the original "air grue" model by BigfootNZ.

They do not have fog coming from them, but if you grab the air elemental model it's loaded with fog/smoke emitters you can play around with. '<img'>
