October 2011 Custom Content Challenge: Demonic Theme
« on: October 01, 2011, 04:36:11 pm »

               This month’s challenge is “Demonic Theme”. Could contain any demons of any alignment, demonic gods, half-demons, demonic parts for PCs, tilesets and placeables for any demonic plane, demonic special abilities, more demon summoning VFXs, undead demons and so on.

This theme was suggested by ShaDoOoW.

Once again, the possibilities for content types are pretty much endless.

Rules:- It must be fully working in game.
- Use of vanilla NWN or publicly available texture is fine, though state-of-the-art amateur's work would require 100% original work, but that's up to you.
- Teamwork is welcome.
- Beginners most welcome, don't be afraid, just try, you'll be surprised!

All submissions must be finished, working, and emailed to me (NWNCCCMakers @ gmail.com – minus the spaces obviously) or a non-Vault link provided by November 1, 2011 (which is a Tuesday) at 8 AM EST. Sooner than that is perfectly fine too. '<img'>

Some things you could include in the download/email that would make packaging everything up easier and faster (otherwise I will just pester you with questions!):
- 2da lines needed. If you are already part of the CC Makers group, please check this month’s 2da post to see which lines are next up to be used.
- Screenshot for use on the vault page (this also gives us hints on how to display the new goodie).
- Portraits (if needed) of your new goodie. ** Placeables and monsters should include a portrait. **
- Inventory icons (if needed) of your new goodie.
- Any credits you would like listed.
- If this is your first entry, please tell me what name you would like your work listed under and provide a link to your other NWN content if you want that displayed as well (the link bit is totally optional). Also if you would like an invite to the CC Makers group, send TheSpiritedLass (aka Mistress) a friend invite. The group is nothing spectacular, mostly just documentation on 2da lines.
- If you are doing tileset content, *please* let me know ahead of time so I can get you the set and itp files to work with. I’m horrible at merging those so this bit you will need to provide.

Remember, the Challenge is all about fun, sharing, creativity and surprise!

If you have concerns/questions about this month’s Challenge please post in this thread.

If you want to discuss the Monthly Custom Content Challenge idea as a whole or wish to submit ideas/themes for future monthly Challenges, please post in its thread here. ***When submitting a new theme, please provide a title and short summary of the theme.***

If you have a technical question about some custom content creation, please create a separate thread so that the answers can be found later by anyone, not just people interested in this Challenge. We'll try to help!

Have no fear and join the fun!

And finally, you can vote for November’s theme right here. The voting dead line is November 1, 2011 at 8 AM EST.

               <shivering...>

Hmmm, I'm going to have to think about this one. What my first impulse was to create would rely too heavily on systems I haven't scripted yet :-(

I will create something. Just not sure what, yet.

               Gargoyles and statues come to mind.Some lost statue in a jungle or something like that.I need some roots that curl like from a tree too.Maybe a special effect on a tree or something that makes a swirl of flailing roots.

               How about some tilesets for the Lower Planes like Gehenna, Baator or the Infinite Abyss? After all, there's some rather unique locales in those places, like for example the Ninth Layer of Baator, Nessus, and how it has an entire huge infernal black citadel that's known as the largest city in the entire Outer Planes. There's plenty of info to be found if you look for it in terms of that at least.

               From the "standard" demons/devils, there are a few that don't have appearances for NWN... Barbazau (CODI had started one prior to their end..*sigh*), Kyton, Lemure, Nalfeshnee, or an improved version of the Marilith?

               A kyton could be interesting, using some dangling meshes for the chains and such, as well as the shapeshifting properties. And lemures even moreso; I'm figuring some use of the sloshy animation aspects from the oozes and gelationous cube to handle the way a lemure is just a slithering blob of flesh.

It'd also be rather interesting to see more Demon Princes and Devil Lords being made. I know that CEP has a few Demon Princes made, but some of them look just a tiny bit mismatched in quality compared to some of the other ones.

               Is the theme based on the Abyss strictly, or all lower planes?

A suggestion of a possible tile as Gleym suggested is the Demonweb Pits. It's a popular layer that is well known and even past 3.5 can be used for Lolth's new plane. There's room for all kinds of features in it, like huge vertical web funnels for room centers, funnel passageways, giant beblith husks that you can walk through like ruins, coccoon galleries, and so on. Maybe similarly to the [CEP]Mines & Caverns tiles, there could be different flavors; much like the caves have Organic, Desert, and the like, this one could have Spider Cavern, Vassal Interior types of tiles to accomodate both the more savage beblith/spider aspect of the plane as well as the lairs of the sentient servants of Lolth.

Water could be acid, Pit could be... well, a pit with vertical webs visible deep into it.

Just an idea.

               I'd imagine that demonic just means, well, fiends and such. So the Lower Planes in general being applicable strikes me as the general theme, yeah. I'll be honest I'm still kind of jonesing for a Demogorgon that looks more like he does in the sourcebooks and in Throne of Bhaal:

               <reluctantly wading forward...>

I will be modeling an altar.

It *may* be a bit disturbing... Still deciding how nasty to make it.
Nasty as in horror, not *naughty* :-P

It will be animated, of course. =) Practice, practice, practice!

                <rubbing his hands together briskly...>

Let's try something a little new, this month ;-)

I've set up (by the Mistress' comman... er, kind permission) an October 2011 project under the CC Makers group. If you are a contributor, please check in and reserve your content. <awkward, Boss> Er, tell us what you're contributing. <redundant, but better>

When the Sept Challenge releases the 2das, they'll be available under the files tab of the project.

If we can, let's keep this thread flowing with ideas and teasers and stuff and move nitty-gritty details to the project discussion. Sound good?

<...so people don't notice the sweaty palms>

               I'll be doing placeable sounds again this month.  Almost skated by with doing nothing, but Rolo caught me.  He has asked for whimpering and keening sounds.  Anything else y'all would like sound wise while I'm at it?

               How about some demonic snarls, chitter, garbled speech and vicious laughter? For those Lower Plane scenarios where you're traversing places where there are eyes on you, but you don't know where they are.

               @Gleym - Sure, I'll see what I can find.  Are you any good at demonic snarling? '<img'>

Here's my attempt at teasers and stuff: Demonic Scalykind, worshipper of Sess'Innek WIP
'Posted'Posted'Posted
Demonic Scalykind, worshipper of Sess'Innek.  Specialist in unarmed
combat.  Used Sahuagin model as base.  Skinmeshed from below neck to above feet, except tail.  Lots of other
changes (tail flail, SF2 Vega-style claw attachment).  Uses Ragnarok_MR4's "Bear's Claw" anims and includes my modification of nwkicks anim to turn it into a low tail-swipe with his flail(how does it stay on? Demonic spirit gum of course!).

Still very much a  WIP.  I had intended something a little more unusual but I'm in the process of seeing if that can be done in-game.
