Dwarfen Halls bugs, fixed yet?
« on: July 04, 2011, 01:07:50 pm »

Hey, im maintaining an old module now which has old dwarfen halls in haks. But this tileset is seriously bugged. There are no second story tiles, so playing in this tileset with high walls is nightmare, also npcs can see and cast spell/shoot with ranged through the walls which is also very annoying.

Does anybody knows if these bugs have been fixed in any update at the vault entry: http://nwvault.ign.c....Detail&id=4392 and if not where can I get them? I heard that CTP fixed this, but I dont know if their dwarven halls is compatible with this old + I dont want add anything else, just to fix this.

Any help appreciated, Sh.''

The CTP has a version of that tileset on their main download page. I believe they resolved all the bugs you mention. ASFAIK the CTP version is fully compatible - its just a fixed version of the original with additions.

Maybe Bannor will see this and confirm what I've said...

Yes, The bugs were fixed.  However, the entire tileset was renamed, so pre-existing areas, or areas created with the original version will not recognize the ctp version at all.

There is still no raise/lower action in the set though.  We did not create the necessary tiles for that.

As far as I know, no other person/team ever fixed the set.  There are many combo haks out there that include the orgiinal, and it IS possible that someone actually did some repairs, but when CTP was working on this set, we could find nothing more up-to-date than the JDA version.

WE actually went through and repaired the set multiple times, as our knowledge of the bugs increased.  The first pass, no one was paying attention to the fact that JDA had used a type 7 face for the walls.  This makes them non-walkable, but allows you to shoot magic and arrows etc, directly through an entire area created with the set, since nothing blocks the shots.

CTP went back in and repaired all of those, and this was not simply a global replacement of the walkmesh face types from 7 to 2.  Since there ARE sections where a type 7 was required and a type 2 would not work.  So each tile was manually edited and fixed for the wall faces.

Many, and in hundreds of other bugs were repaired as well.

Since new tiles were added to the set, and since CTP never overwrites originals, we renamed the tiles internally to prevent it from causing crashes to mods that used the original JDA version.

This means that it is not a direct replacement, but a completely new tileset, and you would have to re-create any areas if you wished to use the CTP version.

There are utilities out there that could likely rename the tiles used in a specific area from the JDA set to switch over to the CTP version, but it would still require manual checking and likely a tile here and there would not be what was expected due to the renames etc.

It would be much faster to just recreate the areas needed.

Thanks Bannor for clarifying that. Considering the amount time I spent on RPGModding, I should have known the CTP tilesets were "new" and not overrides.

I don't know if anyone ever fixed it as well as CTP did Bannor, but I know a couple PW's did have modified versions of JDA's set that fixed some of those major issues such as see through walls, while keeping the old naming so they didn't have to recreate their entire areas.

Ideal is using CTP and start from there, but in some cases they had hundreds of areas and it was less work to mod the existing tileset.

Short word is go with the CTP version if you can.

Bannor so I downloaded yours fixed version and recreated the old areas and now my module is crashing when I try to load it.

Tried in empty mod, and there it works ok once I add the merged doortypes.2da from common hak. (only those 4doors used in this tileset). But not in my normal module, what did I missed?

EDIT: solved, sorry not CTP fault (i removed old hak but I didnt removed one of the old areas in that hak...)
