A modeling hand needed - literally
« on: April 27, 2011, 01:28:09 pm »

Okay, so in my quest to finally finish the clothing hak update for Mythos , I've run into a most annoying snag.  The wonderful hand models by Kurairyu appear to be applying the textures a bit odd?  Mostly I see this in the female hands where the coloring stops at the knuckles, leaving the finger tips as skin.  I tried to fix this by altering the texture but it appears that a single pixel near the thumb area is used in multiple places.  *groans*  Thus wasting several hours of pixel editing.  I know nothing about 3d work and I'm guessing that is what it is going to take to apply the texture to the right parts of the model so there is no 'pixel bleed'.  Again, guessing on my part here, that fixing how the texture is applied to a single model set (one model, all genders) will work for all the textures of a similar type (Bioware Model #s 6 and 63, plus several hak based ones)?

Specific example below with Bioware hand 1 (in the toolset) which is model number 8.

Female issues:
1.   the thumb should be bare skin (this is the most annoying part to me)
2.   no gray line on the thumb - between purple and skin
3.  the purple/gray coloring at just past the knuckles is wonky.  Yup wonky.  That is an official term you know.  *sassy grin*

Male issues:
Roughly the same as female 2 and 3 but not nearly as annoying.

Anyone feel like making these two models behave themselves?

This next one is more of a personal request, where as the hand fix would be nice for the hak using community in general.

Thankfully long ago, Jade gave permission to add her Jade in chains hak to our collection.  My problem is the male shin's texture is metal on metal.  Which is just fine for chaining up criminals in medieval times, but not so much for the attire of a modern day sub.  So naturally, flexing my newly acquired texture editing skills, I changed the band part of the cuff to use leather 1 and left the rings as metal 2.  Quick and easy change.  Which worked for the neck, forearms, and female shins but not the male shins.  The bottom row of metal 2 pixels is again, bleeding into places I don't want it to.  Namely the very bottom of the band.  There is also some skin showing on the bottom of the, supposed to be leather, band.  I spent hours in gimp trying to isolate where the naughty pixels are coming from with no success.  Any takers on this fix?

Thankfully these are the only two model textures I was not able to wrangle into behaving themselves.

I can't remember if I went to fix any of this or not.  Did you look through the haks I've linked you previously to see if I fixed any of these issues?

If not, i may have some time next week now that I'm done school and finished my diploma.  Just have to do that whole find a job thing.

Grats on being done with school!

Just double checked your haks.  The female hand models look to have the same issue.  Granted I only looked at about 10 to 15 of them.  I didn't see Jade's shin cuffs in your hak at all.  I just looked at the males for that though.

That would be wonderful if you could fix them.  The issues are beyond my abilities to fix.  Though I did waste several days trying!  *grunts*

Sorry got distracted today, started fooling with clothes like I promised.  But I got annoyed with all the models that didn't have textures, so wrote a table file for useful file utilities to replace texture field in ASCII files with the actual file name so utilities like NWN Explorer work better.

I'll try to look at the bitmaps tomorrow, I don't promise anything.

Hmmm I am just looking at the CEP 2.4, and they have hands in there, yet I'm not seeing that particular one.  Perhaps you might want to peek through there, they have plenty of pretty things.

*blinks* CEP 2.4?  Wow, I'm behind the times apparently.  Where do I get that from?  Looking at the CEP page on the VaultI only see 2.3  Which I looked at and they do not include the open hand models.  Their #1 hand in the toolset is the same as the picture above.

You got distracted?  No way!  *playful grin*

Another person might be taking a look at the hands today.  Just to give you a heads up to avoid duplicate effort.

Fraid I'm like a humming bird or a crow.  I see shiny and get distracted, especially if it's a dull tedious job.

As for CEP 2.4 it's on the 2.3 download page here: http://nwvault.ign.c....Detail&id=7849  Note that you cannot use the updater to get that information.

I'll let the hands sit until I know if you're still stuck.
