Custom Content Question (s)
« on: February 13, 2011, 02:42:28 am »

I intend this to be a shared topic where anyone with generic questions can ask relating towards custom content

(answered)

My first topic relates to how can i open up files. i use gmax and have all the plugins installed (provided by the Custom Contet Tools Topic (thanks B_Harrison!)

Ill get straigh to the point, im intrested in wanting to edit a model but its in a hak file (more specificaly i want to add/change a few things to it) is it possible to directly open a hak with the model in it and import it into gmax or  is the system strictly limited to just... making... models not editing them?

Firstly, you'll want to find "nwhak.exe", located in your vNWN base folder/utils. You can (almost always) use that to open haks and scroll through any files inside it.

Once you find the file you're after, right click and Export, and you'll end up with an .mdl file.  You can import that into Gmax, provided you've got NWMax.

You can also use NWNexplorer if you so prefer, it is sometimes preferable since you can see what model you are looking at as well.

Steps are the same though, you export the model, then open it with Gmax/3ds max via NWNMax plugin

You need either Gmax or 3dsMax, along with the NWNMax scripts for each or any of the previously mentioned (they are not the same, as far as I know).

Once you have modified to your heart's contempt, you need to cancel insanity checks, and export your tweaked model.

okay as promised here are a few screenshots of my airship, essentialy its a stripped down version of the NwN2 Warship model. i do have a few texture problems, but will adress that later.

I plan on editing it abit further by adding an aft turret, changing the Aft propeller (or adding a propeler), putting up a few sails, rope lines for support of the Masts, and changing a few of Main proplelers "Tubes" to make them appear more mechanical.

About the Airship:

Its a steam driven machne designed from my gameworld (World Of Midland) The G.E.L (Gnomish Engineering League) have ucovered parts of the ancients secret of air travel and have created the very first airship prototype dubbed: "The Imperium Aero Project" from the Empire in which it is now being developed...

No other specific information can be revealed at this time...

The idea was based off of playing too much final fantasy lol:

I have an updated Version and may post them up... i found out what the texturing issue was, but i cant seem to figure out how to fix it '<img'> it seems to "Tile" the texture, does that have anything to with attaching parts to other objects while in 3dsmax (or gmax)?

               thanks, thats much appreciated...

and i was trying to go for a more of a "aero" type feel to the ship by giving it the large bulbous (or zepplin) parts, they are supposed to match the textures of the ship but im having a few issues with it...

this here below is my close to final update, just as soon as i get those textures fixed...

For my Final update i will have: working propellers (if all goes well), a thrust propeller, maybe a balcony or a galley window, more sails and i should be satisfied with that lol.

'Image

if all goes well ill end up trying a stab at making a theatre-airship/ cargo airship from scratch based on this model:

daily-steampunk.com/steampunk-blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/ffxi_airship1280.jpg

as well as a few new models like a crashed Airship, maybe a few construction pieces as well (ie: a large propeller, or an engine or two) but im not getting my hopes on it...

               **NEW QUESTION** (Answered)

Okay, im having some issues with the textures not showing up for my final update (i never thought id run into this much trouble in trying to get my last update in lol)

I load up the same .mdl ive always used,  then i do the updates i wanted, then re-export it as the same .mdl file through nwnmax...

i replace it in the hak (as intended) but when i go into the toolset and... the textures are MISSING!!! 'Image it does that funky "white" texture thingy...

origionaly i assumed it was becaues the texture file was missing so i redownloaded, restarted my computer, and even went so far as completly re-edit the .mdl from a fresh one... no luck '<img'> am i missing something?

edit:

okay ive figured out what was going on lol
