Hak Help
« on: February 02, 2011, 12:10:42 am »

Hey guys, we're finally giving in and making a custom hack. So we'd like to slim down CEP and offer a smaller version of it for our players to download. But I'm not sure how to do that.

We're going to start with heads and clothing, to learn how to add haks. Any advice on how to make it so that it doesn't conflict with people who use the full CEP version?

Any help would be much appreciated.

If you're not using CEP, you don't have to worry about conflicts.  Basically your client loads whatever haks you associate with your module, if something isn't included they don't load it.

As for how you want to format what you use, that's entirely up to you, it will probably be easier to include whatever parts of CEP.  Probably best to do things that way but it will be up to you and your builders.

We still have to use it because large parts of the mod were made with it. We just want to slim CEP down into a smaller WSI version + add custom haks.

Anyone know how well this blends with CEP 2.3? Seems to have most of the extra clothing from the vault. Would it be hard to add/remove items from this hak?

While some of the CEP haks are optional, I don't think you can easily slim down the required ones. If you fiddle with the contents, but retain the names, your players will have to keep two sets of the haks, the original ones, plus your new slimmed down ones.  They'd have to rename to swap out the slimmed down ones to the original ones when they want to play anywhere else but your place. I'd personally be a bit peeved to have to hassle with this.

Blending haks often means blending 2da files.  That can be a bit tedious, if you have a lot of items to add.

You could pick and choose what you want from hak in question and create a new smaller hak with just the new cc items you wish to add.  You might need to blend 2da files, depending on what it is your adding.

Thanks Karvon, that's a good point and it would annoy me too. I guess we'll leave CEP as is.

When I tried that clothing hak it wants the phenotype haks removed from CEP... and that doesn't work for us. Sigh. I guess I have to create the clothing hak from scratch then. No idea how.

The one "exception" to this would be heads.  I'd stick with the CEP naming for the heads you want to keep.  Simply because many players have them in their override directory.

Overrides, the bane of my existance.  And there's actually some instances where overrides can cause server performance issues.

Whenever I've compiled head haks I retain CEP numbers but put them in my own haks as well.

Thanks! Does anyone know of a clothing hak that works with CEP?

Well was curious, so took a look at the hak in question.  One of the author's last posts indicated the next version was going to be fully CEP compatible.  Alas, he never did get around to releasing it.  The hak is listed as partially compatible with CEP, but that was 1.5x, NOT 2.x.  It's been awhile since he posted last, but I suppose you could always try contacting him and see if he's got a copy of that version he might upload.

In order to get this to work with CEP 2.x, you'd have to go thru the 2da's and blend/renumber the stuff you wanted from the hak into vacant space in the CEP 2das.  That would take some serious time, give the size of the hak.

There are a few clothing haks listed as CEP compatible on the vault...

JenX - CEP 2.0

Coulisfu's Oriental Clothing & Armour - CEP2 update

Aria's Clothing CEP2 updated

Appreciate it Karvon. I wonder if those haks are compatible with each other though? Am I still going to be stuck in the renumbering game?

I really doubt they are compatible.

If it were me, I'd probably simply go with the Jenx hak, as, offhand, I think that provides the most additional, and popular, options - based on what I've heard and read about Jenx.  I suppose you could alway make three small test mod's and view them each to make a more objective comparison.

Good luck '<img'>

I'd made an updated version of Jenx and aria's stuff combined when 1.69 came out, however CEP 2.1 was the standard at the time, I don't know what clothing has been added by the CEP team in that time.

I freely give you rights to pull the hak apart and pull models from it, since none of them were mine to begin with, there's still some broken pieces in it, with certain robes.

I'll warn you now if nudity offends, then its probably not a good hak for you.

There's three parts to it. jenx21ios_v2

Which 2da's would I need to extract from your top hak?  I'm guessing the parts 2das at least?

Regards

If you get into ripping apart clothing haks, snag this wonderful little 2da hak by Big Shoe. It makes the toolset display the clothing bits with their actual model/file name. A *HUGE* timesaver. Did I mention huge? '<img'> Just list it above whatever clothing haks you are digging through.

Hak Help

Oops, yeah my bad, the 2das are in the top hak, in total three haks sets used, being CEP 2.1, Aria's clothing (what parts fit with CEP 2.1) and then the jenX21_ios_v2 (which contained any shuffled parts along with any altered pieces from Aria's hak and from the orginal JenX2.)

you'll want the 105 top hak obviously.

Any other questions, let me know.
