the final update to nwn 1
« on: December 08, 2010, 04:04:42 pm »

somthing i suggested on the old forum before it was closed and wanted to address again. i think bioware for the sake of saving multiplayer should create one last official product update which contains the CEP v1 and CEP v2 resources so that the players can nativly support these modules without having to go to a third party site to download. the lack of people who know about cep was in my opinion what lead to the death of all the nice social servers and uber arenas

That will never happen, as good as CEP has been to the community. Bioware has put an end to all updates to Neverwinter Nights.

Multiplayer also does not need to be saved. It might not be as strong as it was in 2006 or earlier but it still has quite the following.

FP!

I agree it will NEVER happen. Not only because BIOWARE already has released the FINAL UPDATE but also because the CEP material, in some instances is of dubious nature, taken from other games, to make such a release with CEP included would be the equivalent of BIOWARE asserting ownership over that material, and that would precipitate a legal (courtroom) defense of that IP by their respective owners.

I often meet new players in the CHAT area (gamespy) and inform them of how to update (http://nwn.bioware.com) and where to find the CEP (http://nwvault.ign.c...r=cep/downloads). Further, there is a CEP link on the front page of the nwn.bioware.com site, it is big and shiney too.

If a server USES a hak the server should have a web page/site, along with a forum and a wiki, all linking to the HAKS REQUIRED. There is the solution; server admins being good about propagating their data.

Be well. Game on.

Also, not all builders/players are willing to go with the CEP as a standard. This is why some of the major projects aren't compatible with any of its versions.

Years ago, Atari simply should have kept the premium mod program going longer as that program made patch 1.69 and all of the DLA content possible.  They chose to kill it when many cool things were still in the works.  Actually, they canceled Wyvern Crown as well for a short time which would have snuffed out 1.69, all because they wanted horsed in NWN2 first.  A game which still doesn't have horses!  Atari expected some mass exodus to NWN2 or something?  Obviously that didn't happen, so the community had to do it all on it's own... leading to all the infighting and factions...

NWN should have had a better ending.  Hell, I would still be buying premium mods today were they available and additional patches possible, but Atari decided it was not to be.
