Sorry to flood the thread - but can one of you gurus tell me how to get bodyparts I'm using to use their texture? I'm not using the PLT (unless there's some way to use it for placeables? THAT would be cool.), just cannibalized the parts, and left the references in them for what texture they use.
How does this work with body parts though, where one can customize the tint? Is there an easy way, or must I make new textures for them? I hope not, as my texturing 'skills' are questionable at best.

Here's a shot of the body parts as placeables:

Thanks for any advice in advance.

Well .plt textures will not work whatsoever on placeable objects, so your best solution would be to use textures from some of the non-dynamic NPC models - I'm thinking the prisoner or beggar models here, as their textures are separated by part in the same way dynamic models are.

Thanks _six. I was pretty sure I couldn't use the .plt method. However, now I'm daydreaming of making the stationary (ie 'placeable') loaded stretchers as a creature similar to the armor stands. Then, a builder could specify what feet and head parts they wanted to put on the stretcher. Think that'd work?

JFK

on second thought, that sounds like a lot of work... bleh. Gotta leave, but thanks for the advice. '<img'>

Tail node might be better for that, imo.

Welcome back to the fun, JFK.  You sure jumped in with both feet and took off running.  =)  I really like the stretchers.  The fallen over one with the body and blood is neat combination of placeable use.  The idea of being able to carry a stretcher between 2 NPCs is cool.  Would you make the 1st NPC's tail contain both the stretcher and the 2nd NPC?  Curious how you would keep 2 NPCs in "step"?  I'm clueless when it comes to modeling so go ahead and giggle over my question if you like. '<img'>

Heya Jez *hugs*  Placeables that players can actually pick up and turn into inventory icons are almost always a fun thing.  I could see a nurse needing some special ointment that is only sold waaaaaaaay over there, and the player must go get her some urgently or her patient will die.

Anthony - Owie a hot poker to cauterize wounds?  *sympathy wince already!*

Your questions are not silly -- in fact they are questions I'm grappling with myself! '<img'>

Here's a shot of the stretcher as a VFX, set up in the toolset just to try it out:
'Posted

Doesn't look too bad as a still, but it really isn't too good in game. The NPC swings his arms as he walks, and the stretcher bobs along behind him. Plus, I was unable to get the following NPC to stay the right distance from the leader. My scriptFu is weak. '<img'>

Here's how it ends up looking, without the rear NPC:

'Posted

My plans are in flux. I think the very best way to pull this off would be to make a new phenotype: The Carrying pheno would keep the arms locked in place, and maybe hunch the shoulders a bit, and strain the neck out a bit? Could have an animation of bending the knees to pick up the stretcher placeable (which then disappears at the same time as the VFX or tail is applied).

As for the rear carrier, well that is gonna be hard for me. I'm not that good at animation. Maybe with help I could add another 'medic' figure right to the end of the stretcher VFX? Unless someone knows a reliable way to script NPCs moving in sync?

Scripting it would be really unreliable if you were trying to achieve the right look - your best bet would be to just create a new "creature" that had the characters holding the stretcher already, then you could animate them separately. If you need help with this I'm more than happy to lend a hand - PM me!

Thanks, Rubies. I may do just that. You're right in that it's just too finicky to try to script them to walk exactly right together, so that leaves either animating it as a tail, or making it as a creature completely. I like the VFX because I don't have to mess with clothing, and a PC could use it, but I don't think it's going to work out.
Don't be surprised if I shoot you a PM after messing around with animation for a while! '<img'>

Well, Happy New Year's Eve, all.

I've somehow or other botched my license transfer of Max7, and I'm currently fiddling with gMax. I'm finding it pretty much the same, except for editing uvw, which seems very tough to me with gMax.

As often is the case, I've tried for more than I can chew here, so I'm indeed gonna take Rubies up on that offer for help with the two-person stretcher. PM sent, Rubies! '<img'>

_six, I'm already looking forward to your tile group, man!

I've had my wound-covered torso done for a fair few days for both genders and all races, but the poor thing is so very scarred and beaten up that I feel I need to get a few more less badly injured bits done before I can share pics of the first - the contrast would be helpful.  Will be sure to get back to you all.  ;-)

Here's a quick pic of a few wounded / bandaged body parts.  I know not everyone would use such badly damaged torsos (not for the sqeamish: the backs are actually even worse), but this is a personal choice - it bothers me when one comes across an NPC who's supposed to be hurt to the point where they're near death and they look completely normal.  Anyway, next on the cards are some parts that combine wounds and bandages rather than just having one or the other.

That is AWESOME.  I just got it into my head to script something where the player automatically switches to that torso when they reach Badly Wounded.
