Specific tiles blacking out and not displaying?
« on: November 25, 2010, 10:33:32 am »

I've searched all over and haven't found anyone with the same problem, so here goes:

In an area using the Fort Interiour tileset of CEP (latest updated version), the Mythallar 3x3 group tile will not display the four corner tiles in-game, but they do appear in the tileset. In the actual game, they are simply blacked out, and any placeables that cross into those four tiles do not show up at all. However, one of the corner tiles has a pipe that runs from the stone wall to the central platform, and that entire pipe comes up as black. Here's a picture for reference.

Another CEP tileset with a Mythallar 3x3 platform, the Castle Interiour 2 (I believe) will display the tile group perfectly with no issues. This only seems to happen with the four corner tiles of the Fort Interiour's Mythallar tile, and nothing else that I've noticed.

It's not just a display issue on my end, either; when hosting the module for others (all of widely varying specs and graphics cards), none of them can see those corner tiles either.

Is this a known issue, something I can fix on my own, or am I doing something terribly wrong?

First, I'd like to mention that these are not CEP tilesets but tilesets created for the WCoC premium module by DLA and included in patch 1.69. A formality, perhaps, but I always think you should strive to observe any issue in the most complete context. Though I don't have a copy of CEP to verify that they themselves haven't broken anything in it.

The error you describe is almost certainly being caused by the visibility nodes of these tiles within the tileset's .set file being set incorrectly, or not being set at all (in which case they are using the tile's pathfinding setting instead, which would be incorrect as they are non-walkable tiles). I've put together two tentative fixes which I've linked to below, which will need to be merged with CEP's .set files if they have altered these tilesets at all beyond how they appear in 1.69. However if you drop them in your override this should fix the issue for vanilla NWN.

Fort Interior (twc03)
Castle Interior 2 (tni02)

Thanks for the correction, I didn't know that. It makes sense now, though.

The fix you provided for the Fort Interior works.. sort of. If I create a new module with no haks at all loaded, with your fix in override, the corners will display correctly. However, the original module (and any subsequent ones) with CEP's haks loaded still do not display the corners, even with the override. This leads me to believe there is a problem with the CEP version of the tileset, and that this override is not.. overriding it.

Near as I can tell, the CEP version is located in cep2_build.hak. How would I go about merging this myself, or what would I rename the override you provided, if that's at all possible?

If you open my version and the CEP versions of these .set files in notepad you should fairly easily be able to copy the relevant tile data from mine and overwrite the same tile numbers in the CEP one - from [TILE59] through [TILE67] in twc03.set, and [TILE201] through [TILE209] in tni02 (and including the data following each of those tiles.

It might look a bit daunted at first, but when you take a look at the data it's actually a fairly easy format to understand - at least to the extent needed to copy/paste each tile's paragraph.

And the reason that it doesn't work with CEP is the hak Overrides the override directory.  As for fixing, if you have a top hak put it in there, otherwise put it in the CEP top hak probably and overwrite the existing set file they have.

I've finally gotten everything working. Rather than merge the tileset fix into the CEP files, I just made a separate hak and threw it up above the CEP files in the module properties. Everything's working without a hitch and everyone can see the corners now. Thanks for all your detailed help and the tileset fix.

(As a side note, the location of the tiles in question is cep2_ext_tiles.hak, not cep2_build.hak, as I previously said.)

You might want to drop the CEP team a line with your edited 2das, as I'm not sure they check these boards as often these days, and I'm sure they'd appreciate the fix for their next update.

What am I, chopped liver?

I'll post it to the CEP forums when I get home if it hasn't been done already.
