Head problems in toolset
« on: October 17, 2010, 09:02:35 pm »

I have been merging a number of heads from different sources. I renumbered them all to work with the CEp tailor as well.

But now for some reason I am experiencing a problem. Normally if you have a head with the normal phenotype and you switch to large in the toolset it will automatically show you the normal head on the large body. But now in the toolset my large phenotype body shows up with no head unless there is a specific mdl file for the large phenotype. I will note it shows the proper head when I finish editing the properties of the creature.

Does anyone have any ideas?

When doing heads there must be two models. For example pmh0_head001 for the standard human male. The second head must be named pmh2_head001 this is for the large pheno human male. The large pheno head is normally a larger scaled version of the head so as to fit the large pheno.

If the duplicate head isn't under pmh2 then your character will not have a head when the large pheno is selected.

This applies for all races. Hope this helps.

The engine is defaulting to the normal phenotype (as assigned by phenotype.2da) because you do not have a corresponding head model for the large phenotype.

Yup what they said.  Generally why Pheno 2 does not see much love, it's a fair bit of work and a lot more MB to add models and textures for pheno 2 and very few people play them.  That's the problem with head models, unlike clothing heads need textures specifically for each race and pheno.

Right, but I don't think I am being clear enough.

From what I understand if you do not have a large pheno head the toolset will by default show the small pheno head. Until recently that is what the toolset was showing me. But now even though there is a small pheno head the large pheno body shows up with no head at all.

Am I overlooking something?

I think you're overlooking that both CEP and Bioware included models for Pheno 2.  I've never seen the behaviour you're describing and I've compiled quite a number of haks, heads and otherwise.  I've always found both toolset and in game showed the same thing if a head didn't exist, you simply see a neck and no head at all.
