Is anyone working on any new mountain tilesets?
« on: September 25, 2010, 05:34:45 am »

I seen where mondego reworked some of LR's mountains but got peeved and quit. The set itself is good but needs some work to make it complete. For instance in the rocky mountains tileset there aren't any caves! How can you have a mountain range w/o some caves?! Also it's not possible to make waterfalls because the lake won't connect to base of a raised tile. And the streams won't connect to a lake either. It's just a bunch of small menial things that hinder the set and for me makes it unusable although I really like it.  Can anyone help or is there a new release of someone elses project? Patiently waiting....E

LR did indeed quit the scene, and I don't believe there's anyone else working on something like this right now.

There are modding tutorials in the sticky at the top of the forum, why don't you make it yourself?  I see people come into the Custom Content forum all the time and make requests, but nobody here is really a "make a request, I'll make something for you" sort of person.  We're amateur modders, we generally make what we like and can use for our own projects.  Your best bet if you want to see a particular piece content as well as enriching the community as a whole is to join us and actually get out there and start making what you want there to be!

I believe that CEP intend to add some content with mountain terrain from the C.R.A.P. legacy material though I have no idea when or what.  There was, however, a hint to this effect some time back on their forum.

Sadly there seem to be no up-to-date tutorials for folks setting out on the custom content path.  I looked at the very useful thread mentioned above by Eradrain but there is little in the way of tutorials. Under resources is the wonderful Custom Content Guide by Eligio Sacateca but while this contains some useful information it is for version 1.29 of the game (Pre Shadows of Undrentide) and is dated 2003.  Many of the recomended tools have been improved or superceded by better ones and some of the links are no longer working.

I would be eternally grateful if someone would be kind enough to prove me wrong, the monthly challenge particularly has fired my enthusiasm to try my hand at creating some new content, tilesets may take a little longer.  ':crying:'

There are some updated resources around.  Start with the list of custom content tools sticky at the top of this forum.  This site I'm linking is being edited by Mohrikan for some tutorials, and for other stuff there are tutorials on the vault.  The tools really haven't changed that much, just in some cases better and newer versions.

Try sending a message to Lord Rosenkrantz asking him about it.  He may not release content to the Vault anymore, but he's still around and working on his own custom content.  I'm sure he could offer you some advice if you wanted to create a mountainside stream crosser.  (I got a huge amount of help from him when I was starting out making custom content.)

For the record I would be interested in this as well.  I'm using Lord Rosenkrantz's Rocky Mountains tileset in Sanctum 3. It's a fantastic tileset and I've been able to do some very nice things with it, like this:

but it was definitely left unfinished and has a couple of glitches, like this:

That odd artifact appears in each of the four corners of the area when viewed from above (such as from the roof of the castle).

The tileset could certainly use some of the additional features that Entreri mentioned, although I've assumed that it would never be updated and resigned myself to working within its existing limitations.

That's good advice. Thanks!
