Mop placeable and weapon?
« on: September 03, 2010, 07:30:57 pm »

               Greetings,

While decorating a bar map this morning, I added some kegs which have spilled wine and ale under them.  Tsk tsk.  The bar maid was sloppy and the owner is not happy.  Alas... She can not find a mop to clean up the mess.  Does anyone happen to know of a hak with either a placeable mop or a wieldable mop?   I have both versions of a broom (and even a bucket) but that doesn't work well on liquids. '<img'>

-- Mistress, so very happy to have time to build again.

There aren't any mops that I'm aware of.

There are however tutorials for basic 3d modeling in the stickied thread at the top of the forum with free modeling software; a mop seems like an easy first project.  You could make your own, or if you're disinclined, you could just use the broom and rename it "mop".

If nothing short of a mop will do, you'll have to either search the NWVault for one, or do the aforementioned modeling exercise.

Good luck!

*look of total horror*  3d modeling?  Hmmm how fast can I run away? '<img'>

I did a search for "mop" on the vault and did not find any.  That doesn't mean they don't exist.  At least that is my hope and I'm sticking to it!

Thanks for the quick feedback, Eradrain.

3D modeling isn't that hard, at least not for something as simple as a mop.  I recommend you give it a try.  You'll feel very empowered when you finish your first placeable, I promise.

I have tried 3D before.  It was... yeah... not very successful.  I'll stick with scripting, that is super easy.  *big grin*

You could suggest a theme that would include a mop for the CC Challenge, perhaps?

Failing that, and if no one else steps forward, I wouldn't mind creating one for you after I finish off some other projects.

Working on it right now. '<img'>  That's why I had the question about a flex on a weapon...the mop just doesn't look right if the head doesn't droop downward when in the "ready" stances.  It's going to be a spear model.

I've got the placeable versions done already, it's just the weapon version that's taking me longer (I'm relatively new at animation, so it might take a couple more hours while I teach myself more).

When done, I'll be uploading the complete mop package to the Vault. '<img'>

"mop" spear models (3 versions)
mop placeable models (3 versions for laying on top of a bucket or counter)
mop placeable models (3 versions for leaning against a wall)
modified baseitems.2da (so mop spear can use higher appearance numbers)
modified placeables.2da

I thought about the CC Challenge but figured it was too specialized of a request?

That is a hugely generous offer.  Wow!  =)  Do you have any interest in making some mythology specific stuff?  Again, I thought what our server would need in terms of mythology based models would be too specific to add to the CC Challenge. I would *adore* having more buildings like these to work with in Rome/Greece.  We have only a handful of such buildings to work with.

Now where did I put that drool bucket, I'm going to need it!  That is awesome news, I'll be eagerly watching the vault.

Good idea. How about a Toolshed CC Challenege?

Coils of chain, brooms, mops, rakes, different kind of barrels and boxes, a workbench.

FP!

Nice!  I know the following exist as weapons:
- bucket (one-handed tool)
- broom (magic staff)
- pitch fork (two-handed tool)
- shovel (two-handed tool)
- stool (club)
- knife (dagger)
- fork (dagger)
- frying pan (light mace)  I laughed so hard over this one. Brilliant!
- shepards hook (magic staff)

A rolling pin could be fun too.

I was thinking more along the lines of placeables, not weapons. Some leaning, others laying on the ground or hanging on hooks.

Ok, going with simplified "atmosphere" weapon version of the mop.  The game engine uses the "default" appearance/animation for the weapon (game doesn't seem to want to reorient the mop head when I want it too in battle animations), so I can either make it look "ok" when striking or make it look ok when just being held outside combat.  I'm going to go with the ok outside combat (who's doing any real fighting with a mop, anyway?).

Not sure when I'll get the package uploaded, since my offspring are being extra demanding today. '<img'>

Those would be great to have as well. =)

Along those lines, in my custom trades palette (so these models already exist - No clue what is in the CEP) I have:

- bucket

- broom (leaning)

- wood chopping block with axe

- bundle of rope (though that is now standard)

- hammer

- hatchet

- horse brush (Now there is a set of placeables I can't believe there are not more of after 1.69)

- couple ladders (one on ground and one leaning)

- couple mortar and pestles

- pilers

- hanging tool rack

Don't think I have ever seen a rake, nice idea!

There is a placeable rolling pin.  *grins*

There's some of those as improvised weapons in D20mm (frying pans, rolling pins and others).
