Haven't rideable dragons been already implemented? (without the dragonlances mounted to the saddle of course)

wastn the idea of CCC to encourage builders to create a new and unique content within given theme and within the current month?

I dont think its a good idea to continuously add whatever fits into theme anytime later, even if creator gives permission. Once its on the vault so why to add it into CCC? It also slows down releasing the CCC haks for that month. Imo either that builder release it for CCC only or not. Having the same content both in CCC and as individual entry on vault isnt good idea...

There are a couple of issues here I'd like to address. But first my standard caveat: I am AD's sidekick in this, I'm just helping out - mainly by handling the addendums to past themes. The CCC really is too much for one being :-P

The first issue is adding new content to old CCCs. Previously, on "All My Content", I said

What to do with new content for old themes? No way would I update a 20mb archive for a single new item, forcing builder's to re-download everything everytime someone adds something.

But I don't want people new to the CCC to have to download a dozen different files either.

So here's how I'll handle it:
New content for old themes is added to a monthly queue for that theme. At the end of the month any queue with content will be archived as a Builder's Source Addendum and made available on the Vault.
At the end of the year, all addendums will be combined into an Annual and the addendums removed.
I believe with this system we open up all those great old themes for improvement (I'd love to see Uncager's Planescape stuff added :-) but we maintain an organized, sensible method of additional content.

The idea is to give *new* authors an avenue to contribute to theme's they missed out on and for active Makers to update/improve their entries. The CCC is all about challenging ourselves to make fresh new content and everything else is secondary.

If we disallow Makers from updating /improving their content then they will think twice about commiting a work of love to the CCC. Can you imagine Zwerkules abandoning the Arabian City after only a month's work? Heartbreaking!

This has a secondary effect, in those particular themes can accumulate a lot of themed content. So, if a bunch of new ships were added to Pirates, and then someone added a Pirate Battle Ocean Tileset and a bunch of pirate voicesets... Where else would one go to find all that themed content in one place, but the CCC Pirates theme?

So I strongly support the addition of *new* content to old themes. The change to the CCC was simple: I merely re-opened every theme for new content under the old guidelines. (I did that while I was coordinator, and AD hasn't changed it).

-----------
The second issue is a separate Vault project page for complete projects.

Long before I became Coordinator of the Challenge, before making my first entry - The Crone, I said

I took it the way _six did. I certainly intend to release The Crone with Sylvi'a's other 3 aspects when I have something a lot more comprehensive put together.

note: the admonishment to not release separately comes *after* the rules list. It sounds to me more like a common sense admonishment... don't flood the vault with duplicates.

If there is a problem with that, I'd have to respectfully withdraw The Eater of the Dead from the CCC.

and The Spirited Lass (bless her noogies!) said

Clarification on the whole 'don't post on the Vault' thing: I added that note after there was some confusion as to how to submit files for the challenge. Now there is an email address for the challenge that people can send files to if they don't have a way to upload them. Looks like I need to work on some clarification of the clarification wording. *grins*

My take on the whole Vault thing is this (and this is just my take):
Once the 'official' files hit the Vault, the community is free to use them how they wish. There is no formal end user rules. Well, other than to enjoy the content!

That clear things up? Anything else in the 'theme annoucement' post that is confusing/in need of clarification? As y'all can probably tell by now, it is just a template document that I copy/paste each month's info into.

If you think about it, would the purpose of the CCC (to promote fresh new content) be better served by restricting content (as some combination haks do) or by *encouraging* Makers to take what they submitted and expand/improve upon it.

The best example of this I can show is the stuff that's been incorporated into Project Q and Zwerkules Roman & Arabian City tilesets. They *deserve* a project page on the Vault and frankly, they belong to their authors. The CCC only asks for first publishing rights (which I think we need to apply with common sense as noted above ;-).

My very first entry - the Crone - is part of a DM_Avatar pack that I will have in my Amethyst. These are DM NPC's that promoted players will be able to possess. If for some reason the CCC restricted my use of my own content, I'd abandon the CCC. Sad but true.

-----------
The third issue is the release of content on the vault in conjunction with the Challenge.

Remembering that our absolute primary mission is the creation of fresh new content, here's my take:

If the new content is released around the same time, I'm willing to use some common sense in applying this particular guideline, primarily because it takes time to put things together and it's unreasonable to expect Makers to wait forever for us to get a hak out ;-P

A case in point are the mechanical spiders for Steampunk. Steampunk has been delayed in the hopes we'd have more than two entries. I *want* those spiders for Steampunk. So let's be sensible and allow them ;-) Technically, they were *not* released prior to the Challenge, anyway.

Now let's look at Merricksdad's new spell effects (which, btw, he *hasn't* submitted :-( yet... ). The content is fresh and new and fits the Spellcraft theme to a T.
The upsides are obvious; we get a great addition to the theme and he gets another place to highlight his work.

What are the downsides to accepting them, either in the Monthly or in an addendum?

Can there be another animal-related one? I feel like the last one was a bit of a missed opportunity. There was some good stuff in there, but there are a lot of animals that to this day have either never been represented in NWN or not done very well: rabbits, elephants, rhinos, hippos, frogs/toads, beavers, monkeys, constrictor snakes and so on.

Suggestion for a theme: Vikings, Celtics, and Norsemen
There's a ton of options here from mythological figures to ships, rune stones, and warrior women.

Bluebomber4ever: There could be another animal-related theme.  Feel free to give it a title and a 1-paragraph summary for the poll listings.  It'll can get added eventually*.

* Eventually: Someday in the future, with no guarantee on a specific month or year it gets added to the themes polling.  There are still a lot of themes yet to hit the poll, and I'm limiting each poll to 13 options.

Jenna WSI: Adding this to my list of future poll options.

Hey all, just a suggestion from a dragon here.  If you are storing your files as a project here on the BSN site, please email the link(s) to the CCC email address.  I don't keep an eye on projects pages (nor ever check the "What's New > My Friends" option in the left menu) and I may miss a projects link dropped in a month's theme thread.  Thanks.

Apologies but there's this idea that's been rattling around in my head that just has to escape. Suggestion->

Filth - Piles of steaming U-No-What, assorted rubbish, muddy pools and anything else that will make villages and towns just a tad more authentic than the current pristine places that we currently build.

I was thinking about the same, so I second the previous suggestion for a poll option.

Hmm, how about:

"Even More Animals: Just like last time, NWN still lacks a lot of animals that are staples of D&D: elephants, rhinos, porcupines, monkeys, frogs and toads, hippos, most giant insects, different varieties of fish, and so on. Giant/dire versions of regular animals and giant vermin would be nice as well. Even dinosaurs could use some love! Placeables of various animal parts could be made as well -- bones, skins, taxidermy, etc. Or a system for setting up snares with placeables and scripts. There could be inventory icons for animal parts as well. Or what about weapons made of animal parts, like a club studded with shark teeth?"

I tried not to make it exactly the same as the previous one, while still acknowledging that some of the suggestions from it still have merit. '<img'>

@MerricksDad, wish you had suggested it first as I seem to be something of a Jonah when it comes to custom content suggestions. Not one of my suggestions has ever made it to actually being voted the winner of any polls ('^_^').

Animals... Excellent idea. I can see some uses for rabbits, foxes, beavers, buffalos, lynx, ducks, domestic cats... '<img'>

OK, I finally got round (after a few years of dithering) to doing some stuff for the CCC... so now, I'm going to finally get round to adding a topic suggestion I've been meaning to add for years. I know they were fleetingly alluded to in the "Even More Animals" suggestion above, but...

"DINOSAURS!"
Dinosaurs of all types (maybe even completely original fantasy Dinosaurs), plus other prehistoric reptiles (pterosaurs, mosasaurs, pelycosaurs, etc), prehistoric fish (Dinicthys and other placoderms), extinct invertebrates (Eurypterids, etc), and even extinct mammals - imagine an Andrewsarchus roaming the streets of Neverwinter!
Dinosaurs have lots of uses for an assortment of Modules, look good and - if the NWN2 Storm of Zehir expansion is anything to go by - exist in the D&D Universe too... Wouldn't we all just adore a pet Spinosaurus?!

I have no idea if anybody would be interested in doing this with me, but "Minis". Creating a miniature set of various NWN creatures for use on a different scaled battle mat. Poly count could be lowered, but it isn't a requirement. I was thinking this might be useful for large scale battles in smaller areas. Reducing the poly count of mini versions would however take a little strain off the engine, but not much. Skinning tiny creatures is also super easy, so this might be a gateway tutorial for people wanting to learn how to make skins for NWN1. Separate high contrast textures could be used for mini's too, so they were easy to distinguish on the field of battle. For an example of my intentions, see "League of Legends".

Here's another one: "Fantastic Locations". Create a custom tile group for use as an addition to a specific tileset or as a standalone area. This could be a scene from a favorite movie, a clone of a favorite locale in another game, or just something you find very interesting. The first thing that comes to mind is classic team fortress style maps where teams have spawn gates or pads. You then do most of your fighting in a central point constructed in a way that combat is the smoothest, or has excellent stuff to take cover behind. These could even be based on some of the official battle maps. For some examples of small zones with non-customizable parts, see games like "Archeblade".

I've added several new themes from here to the "potentials" list I keep.  Some really nice ideas out there.

And here's another new one, from me...

Not Just Walking XP: Make goblins more interesting than just two-dimensional walking XP for many low level PCs. They should have goblin-made lairs (placeables, tiles), they should have goblin-made/found weapons, armor, treasure (item models or prefabs), they should use devious traps (scripts), they should use underhanded tactics (ai scripts, encounters, etc.), they should have interesting pets (prefabs, models), they should have better quests for them (beyond "bring back 10 goblin ears"), and they should have more personality (conversations, one-liners, etc.). Goblins also have ancestral enemies (such as ugly, hairy, grumpy dwarves) that might have spells/items that target goblins. Kobolds should also be included in this theme.
