               The Purgatory tileset from the "Custom Content Challenge October 2011" hak appears to be missing a walkmesh; I am unable to set a starting location anywhere except for the upper part of the "Temple" tile. Is anyone else experiencing a similar issue?

               Maybe I missed it during my leave, but it seems we missed to celebrate the CCC anniversary? :'(
Apparently its going well on its second year (wow!), maybe we should do something special? Speaking of that, a while ago Mistress spoke about a yearly compilation. Any news on that? (Did I missed it?)
Maybe that would be a nice gift/celebration to do to the community =)

Thoughts, ideas? (and sorry if I'm unearthing old cadaver '<img'>)

New spells, new spell effects, spell crafting items and placeables, wizard/alchemist tiles, Spell-related creatures - familiars, homunculus, experiments and specimens...

I'll be adding it to the August poll.

Hey, Carcerian! Pick another one from your Long List of Things to Make™. I'll add that too :-)

               <wishing he'd brought along a snorkle...>

I'm putting together a CC Makers special project page on the Vault and I'd like those valuable Comments/Concerns/Suggestions™ :-)

The CC Maker's Reference project will attempt to be a "one-stop" center for getting into making custom content. It will have links (as the great thread here does) to tools and tutorials. It will also try to collect specific reference material for the CCC such as OTR's Deer Pack and the Reference Heads TAD, Rubies & I are putting together (Rubies already has the human heads, med. poly models done and is working on the textures. TAD has a full set of low-poly heads done... somewhere. I have... a stubborn nature ;-P <word> ).

I'm also hoping to include content-specific reference textures (like TAD's item textures he recently put on the Vault). Putting together something like "The Reptile texture pack" or the "Stone Ruins texture pack" would provide a more consistent appearance and level of quality to CCC stuff, and allow people to contribute from their strength, rather than try to come up with everything from scratch. I.e. if they enjoy modeling, but hate creating textures let them have a library of CCC textures. If they enjoy 2D art, give them dear, er, deer models to try their hand at skinning.

Bits of what I'm proposing have been done and seems quite redundant, but when someone asks "How do I get started?" it would be nice to say "start with this..." <you mean, like how you always say "start with the ccg v3.0?>
Er, yes. Like that... *scowls*

Somewhere...and they were found.  You'll want to check the CCC email account.  Bald heads plus VFX reference models.

               <counting...>

Ok, compiled TAD's low-poly VFX template heads into a 3DS Max 2010 scene and created the foundation "CC Maker's Reference" project on the Vault to upload it to. I really wanted to at least get the basics in place so new Makers can try new things in the PC Customization theme... which I feel coming up fast ;-)

I don't suppose one of our better tutorial writers want to tackle the tute for making Head-aligned VFX the easy (-ier) way? Tutorials are *not* my strong point :-P

When I have gone through his bald heads pack, I'll put together a Reference Heads hak as well.

When Rubies signs off on the mid-poly human heads (they are looking *so* cool!) I'll add them as well.

                <thinking chartreuse and puce...>

Ok, we've had a motion and a second  to have an East Coast vs West Coast CC face-off.

Discussion (please join in):
These things take time, so I propose said hypothetical conflict be scheduled... <quit with the fancy words, would ya, boss?>
Ah-hem. Let's do this at years-end. Better? <yup>
It should be something that adds to and highlights the Custom Content for the year. <mods. demo mods>
I was *getting* to that, bird. <slowpoke>
Ok, what I'm proposing is forming up two teams to produce demo mods for two different months content. The mods will be reviewed and voted on in the following three categories:

  • "oh, neat!" - The neat idea category, like OTR's ship in a bubble or TAD's faerie stones.
  • "Wow!" - The Wow factor, something that just makes you stop and look/listen and absorb it all.
  • "What fun!" - How much you enjoy playing the mod.

What do you guys think?<chartreuce & puce>
No. <why not?>
Just... no. <grump>

<...would make terrible team colors>

               Interesting, Rolo. Last year I had proposed a module building challenge for the Project Q team to host, but this could be better as it would highlight the CCC content. So I propose the following without the westside v eastside thing (I think this should include all of the NWN community):

Module Building Challenge

Rules:
(1) Must use a Community Content Challenge HAK.
(2) The CCC HAK is predetermined before module start and available on the vault. Perhaps this would be all the CCC content made in 2011 or before 2012. Or some such thing. Whatever makes the most sense and is an unchanging HAK.
(3) (possible option) The module may have one additional HAK. The content of this additional HAK is limited to 2DA files, blueprints, and palette files. (the point is no additional art assets or modifications, no tileset changes etc...)
(4) Module does not make use of add-ons like NWNX, NWShader etc... The point is for any visitor to the vault to be able to download the module and hak, play it, and see everything that you intended.
(5) Module must be submitted by a particular date. One month would be very difficult, but could make this very fun as well.
(6) All contributors to the project are credited. If you download a code package from the vault, you provide a link to the package (and hopefully left a comment on the vault entry).

Purpose:
Fun and highlighting the stuff made by all the wonderful artists in this community.

Ideas:
Partner with the Academy for Modding Excellence

               <waving away...>

Not ignoring this. Thinking hard.
Frankly, I'm enjoying the East/West rivalry as a fun little bit of spice, but I also want this to be both accessible (meaning Makers can contribute where they want) and enhancing (meaning it adds to the value of the CCC).

One of the jobs I'm falling down on is creating the demo mods for all this great content. I have grand plans for a meta theme that starts with the Rogue demo "Get Ducky!"(done) where all of Cestus' back-pay has been stolen from his "thief-proof" vault, with the story continuing and developed free-form through each month's demo (ala "Where in the World is Vibrant Penumbra") until it culminates, somehow, with the big boss encounter in the December mod.

It is for this purpose that the vault's Lockstone was made a trophy (with other trophies tracking a player's advancement through the year. It is for that purpose that players XP is adjusted to level 15 and then restored (with xp gain) at the end of each demo. The name/concept of the Oriental mod is "Oni the Lonely" and really depends on a couple of tilesets *cough*. And that's where I bogged down :-(

If we could fit this demo challenge into that story arch, and keep it fun and accessible, I think that would be the best possible development. At the end of 12 months we'd have 12 great CC packages, we'd have a playable campaign highlighting that content and we'd showcase and promote the truly impressive talents of contributors *including* the rather overlooked level designers and scripters who somehow don't consider themselves CC Makers (*excuse* me?!). Hah! <end rant, wizard>
Er, yeah.

So I'm thinking. Hard. <*cough cough*>

Ideas:
Partner with the Academy for Modding Excellence

Loving this!

                <thinking about the expense...>

Shemsu recently asked me a rather thought-provoking question. The answer was simple and obvious (to me), but there was that blasted can-o-worms attached to it.

"Are the old themes closed or can I make some things for them?"
heh. Anyone who knows me knows I *adore* new content, I get all warm & fuzzy at the thought of getting my <sticky> fingers on new shiny things. So the answer was, "Go for it!", of course.
Then the worms started wriggling out of their can and me without a fishing rod ;-P

What to do with new content for old themes? No way would I update a 20mb archive for a single new item, forcing builder's to re-download everything everytime someone adds something.

But I don't want people new to the CCC to have to download a dozen different files either.

So here's how I'll handle it:
New content for old themes is added to a monthly queue for that theme. At the end of the month any queue with content will be archived as a Builder's Source Addendum and made available on the Vault.
At the end of the year, all addendums will be combined into an Annual and the addendums removed.
I believe with this system we open up all those great old themes for improvement (I'd love to see Uncager's Planescape stuff added :-) but we maintain an organized, sensible method of additional content.

And, in case you're wondering what Shemsu-Heru has made (I believe someone was looking for a rolling pin weapon? :-)
  • Ancient Civilizations - Pelta Shield
  • Commoners - Rolling Pin
  • Oriental - Kunai (dart)

               <unlocking the gates...>

Basically, this means I've re-opened every previous theme for new content.

Just in case someone missed it ;-)
