There and back again; a neverending tale.
« on: February 08, 2016, 11:15:13 pm »

So back in 2004 (November) - my friend and I began a trek of creating a Neverwinter Nights machinima series called Neverending Nights - and much to our surprise, found folks who enjoyed the madness we had created. The series concluded after 65 episodes (ending in Jan 2013).

I have bounced back and forth with returning to the series and beginning a new adventure - but a lot of the original actors have long since moved out of San Diego. (And I dislike recording over Skype or other means; when it's not a controlled environment where it's very quiet), because several episodes suffered because of it (in terms of audio).

Well, the other day - someone had mentioned that the series is still pretty fun - but pretty rough at 800x600 resolution when they expand it to full screen (it blurs horrible and pixelates).

So then I thought - why don't I re-film the entire series and do what I can to "fix" the audio (as much as possible; in some cases, there's just going to be no helping it, for example when some lines were recorded by someone who lived on the other side of the US and recorded their lines on an iPhone).

Here is the original Episode 01:

And here is the re-filmed 1080p (true HD) version:

I plan on re-releasing each episode every Saturday (for the next 65 Saturdays, as time permits).

If you enjoyed the new HD version; please share it and help get the word out. I'd GREATLY appreciate it.

Thank you! I have repeatedly gone back and forth with continuing it (as I said before) - but then it dawned on me that it would be great to put this in actual HD (1080p) - and since I am working with existing audio (touching it up where I can) - it's essentially just re-filming it. I have already finished the first three episodes in two days! So I can probably knock these out pretty quick - and just have them to be released every Saturday (that's the game plan, but as we know, real life can tend to step in the way).

Feels good to be... home... again.

Oh! I just realized Youtube has an auto "Closed Caption" - I just watched it - and some of it is "off" as to what's actually being said. I have dug up all the scripts for the purpose of re-filming it - I wonder if there's a way to embed various languages for Closed Captioned (I would essentially be relying on Google Translate to translate the scripts).

Google translate is getting better, but still not very good. There's probably someone willing to translate it to Russian, someone to translate it to German and maybe someone for Polish and possibly some other people who can translate to other languages as well.

Are you telling me google doesn't know everything? '<img'>

It's true - I could get someone to translate it. However, all three seasons combined is 325 pages (font size 10). That's a lot of pages for someone to translate - all for free. I would feel bad asking someone to put that much work into something.

I would rather go with translating it with google, and if someone spots errors - then let me know - so at least it's not the entire document.

Episode 05 HD is now released. Remember, when you watch it on Youtube to click the GEAR icon and select 1080p for the best results. I don't think Youtube selects that by default.

So... Travis made me aware of this...

I assume it's you (same name on the Vault as you have here) - and if it's you - I am beyond floored and so freaking honored that you referenced us and talked about the "Ice Cube Monster" - just gave you a shout out of how floored and honored I was on our Facebook page. Seriously. This made my night. When I made this series, I always hoped that others would enjoy it - maybe laugh. But when I see something I did with the series get referenced elsewhere - sound like a sissy here - but seriously it fill my heart with all kinds of pride!
