WHat does this game need?
« on: December 08, 2015, 09:31:20 pm »

I have been playing for the last 2 years, and i find that something is missing terrible but I cant quite yet decide what is putting me off and making me want to quit it.

Its not that its repetitive but all new things that come are kinda already seen somewhere, another mmo or in the past in nw, what do you guys think of trying to make something new, something totally different, this game srssly can't lose anything since its kinda on the going down train.

NWN is old, real old.  Most of the elements that you might think is newer in another game has almost certainly has been already done with this game.

What makes NWN exceptional is that if a genius builder doesn't like a module, the available ruleset allows them to create their own modules.  This is why the very best homemade modules are better than the official ones.

I have downloaded, played and then deleted a shed load of homemade modules.  While some of the modules I have played have been dire imo, I can only respect the time the authors have used to create their Art.  When it is even better than the official modules, it becomes awesome indeed, and a joy to play.

The good thing about NWN is that it offers an effectively unlimited supply of community-made modules to play, many of them high-quality.

The bad thing, perhaps, is that since there is an effectively unlimited supply, you can keep playing them indefinitely until you get somewhat bored, as one will eventually get bored with any game if one plays it exculsively for a long enough time. It sounds like that may have happened to you. NWN offers enough variety to put off that point of boredom much longer than many games would, but it will not necessarily do so for everyone forever.

I am speculating here, since it is hard to respond without you being more specific about what you have been playing and why you are unhappy with it. Perhaps you need to take a break and try some other games, after which NWN might seem fresh again if you come back to it? Perhaps you want to try some of the more outside-the-box modules? Is there something in particular you think could be done in a module or PW to make it more interesting to you?

NWN has scores of modules, an active modding community, and PWs in which characters really can affect the world in the which they "live." However, the pinnacle of NWN is the Aurora Engine and its Toolset - although visually antiquated, NWN remains light years ahead of anything put out in recent years in this genre in terms of modding capability.

Take a break, play some of those "pay to win" MMOs and then come back to NWN. I'm sure you'll find that NWN was well worth coming back to.

If you're tired of being a player and really want to go nuts, open up the Toolset and start building. There are more than enough folks here to offer you a helping hand.

That dwarf under there?  Don't see beard so not sure.  Very nice anyway. '<img'>

What NWN need is time machine to warp back to when D&D crazies move from PnP to machine worlds. There was NWN starting and v3.0 was brand new. No more crawling on floor to find dice.

I know no more D&D RP type game that let anyone make their own adventure how they like and no matter if they good with game tricks or not.  Even kids could jump in building fresh stuff no sweat.  Don't forget community either.  NWN still best group that help each other do new ideas and sweet looks. That why is still here while other games wish they could last this long.

Maybe better question is what do all the other games need? Answer: What NWN already have! *lol*

You can't see beard, because beard is under beardplate. You see.. dwarfs value their beards..

NWN need y-axis :3

LOL - that post reminds me of an old dwarf model I made. The beard was so thick that I was sure it would be safe to delete all the faces on the torso underneath. Unfortunately, I gave the beard a flex modifier so it would move slightly which had the added effect of making the gaping hole in the torso visible from certain angles when the model animated.  ''

Oh the joys of learning curves.

If you've tried all the classes and combos, you could add PRC  http://neverwinterva...ms-prc-pack-v35 to some mods or the OC. PRC really spiced up SoU as well.

Or you could try a persistent world. There are a lot of good ones alive and kicking: Alangara, Soul Forge, Neversummer 4 etc. Check out this link for others:  http://www.nwnlist.com/ choose the right tab to display NWN1 servers.

Best of luck.

PS. Don't try an MMO.. they nearly all suck.

NWN needs only more players. Nothing else.

Not much.  Making good use of haks you have nearly unlimited building options.  One thing that comes to mind though is a really good jungle tileset... don't think I've ever seen one.

There was the one that Grani picked out from Lord of Worm's PW.

It's a lot more dense than some of the forest reskins we've seen in the past, so give a look.

FP!

Maybe more players sharing experiences/modules/servers that they're passionate about would be nice.  There's so much available it would be a help to new people finding things that suit their tastes.

As for completely new stuff:  NWN is a canvas, IMO, paint on it what you will.  Getting people to help is the tricky part '<img'>
