IGN Vault project pages *poof*?
« on: July 27, 2014, 03:12:52 am »

...or is there something wrong with my browser?  I changed the hosts file weeks ago and was accessing pages fine (no downloading without the DNS up, of course) to identify projects, get descriptions, etc.  Just a few hours ago it stopped responding so after several attempts I figured I'd check with the community to find if it's on my end or just a *burp* on the IGN end.  Maybe weekends are retooling days?

It hasn't been working for a week or two, even with the hosts file change.  Should keep up with the thread on this topic in this forum.

The file server was down indeed for some time, but 2 days ago there was a screen "under maintenance" and now there is nothing. They posted some Twitter messages that they are trying to fix everything.

<not going to be pessimistic about it, werelynx, no, let's not be pessimistic - we gotta give them some time, right?>

Er, what?  I'm looking at the page right now and the following message is still there like it's been for two weeks:

Neverwinter Vault Maintenance

The Neverwinter Vault is currently undergoing maintenance and the site is temporarily redirecting to this page. Apologies for the inconvenience -- we know Neverwinter Vault is an awesome resource and we're working to restore nwvault.ign.com as quickly as possible.

I dont believe just one word that they say. The play on time i bet because some people might have been so pi**** and expressed it somewhere somehow eventually. They deleted most of the comments from their Neverbastard online game anyway....

I've been visiting there regularly to grab project descriptions, categories, ID numbers, etc.until last night.  Nothing having to do with IGN Vault access here or elsewhere escapes my gaze ''

The maintenance warning is what I was getting before changing the hosts to direct connect.

Don't really pay much attention to those warnings anyway.  The phrasing almost matches verbatim what Bioware had been posting when they pulled the plug.  Cattle-herding. *mooo*

Except with BioWare, we got absolute silence from the ones in charge.  At least with IGN, we are getting confirmation of their intents:

July 24th:

Peer Schneider: Thanks for your patience! We backed up the site to prevent loss of content. There continue to...

Peer Schneider: .....be security issues (malware intrusions/hacks) that prevent us from restoring. Not forgotten!

Balkoth: Thanks, relief to hear. Any eta? A few days? A week? A month? Half a year? Trying to manage expectations.

Peer Schneider: Weeks, hopefully! The other big site archive is 1UP. Same/different challenge.

Andarian: Thanks! Your diligence and response on this is very much appreciated.

Most likely, they have like 1 person in charge of trying to fix things, and that person probably has other things on their to-do list. Nice of them to be still trying to get things working again, but at this point we should never be in position to be dependent on them again. /shrug
