Is this contact (the one ladling out the misinformation, I mean) familiar to any of you folks who have contacted IGN in past years?
Seems to me like someone who was thrust into a position that they are ill-equipped to handle. Usually, when a client has trouble communicating very basic ideas to a representative (or that agent is stumped by simple questions) it means reorganization has occurred, along with the fumbling around that is intrinsic to that sort of conversion if poorly-planned (or just totally ignored). He's probably wearing his fire chief hat right now and it doesn't fit right. However, I wouldn't assume there is any motive behind the cryptic replies. He may just have been given one responsibility too many and is faking it best he can to hold on to his job.
Question related to the mirroring effort:
With the Vault still accessible enough to allow us to grab content, has anyone tried to upload any new version(s)? Not that it would make much sense to do so, but I am wondering how many contributors may still not know about the redirect and are assuming it is business-as-usual for them and their projects. The Vault might be revising occasionally. The reason I am curious is that others have already reported that they never did have an interruption of Vault access because they had changed their hosts file during the previous fiasco. If they never visited BSN they may not know even now that there is a problem until the legacy Vault goes *poof* altogether.
If the Vault is still operating normally, I don't know how feasible it is, but is there a way to alert all NWN contributors globally of the status who may have been away on some sort of sabbatical while this whole thing was going down?
