Keep the faith, mate!  We've gotten through 12 years of hurdles together.  Another bump in the road won't derail this community.

Rolo and his merry band are expanding the amount of content available on the Neverwinter Vault hourly.  When he told me how many projects were contained in the back-up compilation I was shocked to say the least.  The team is trying to support both NWN1 & NWN2 at the same time with over 2000 projects already accessible.  Once the monster back-up is accessible on-line, it is likely that the rate of uploads will increase dramatically as the community pitches in to help collectively populate the new site.

Any further word though on the situation at the nwvault.ign.com site?

It has been awhile since they mentioned being down for "maintenance".  Just wondered if anyone else here has heard anything new from those folks.

For me... i abandoned my old love the nwvault and have accepted that we have a new place. IGN pis+ed us off not even telling the community what they have in their plans and then no one is honest enough to take responsibility in a manner that would be ok. Well it wouldnt be ok anyway but at least being honest is something i would call appropriate in such a situation.

So i dont care anymore. IT was great more then that but this "end" was just bad. A backstab imo!

EDT:

i better removed my real thought about the guy who is responsible... '<img'>

Honestly the IGN Vault was already locked since may, and even as far as comments it was pretty dead, and as far as community, we had already started using the new bioware forums (here) and new vault already, but yes, it's crash was still a major pain in the ass...

The "Official" IGN Story:

NWN vault was intended to be archived to a permanent wiki backup (you may have noticed some attempted IGN project redirection that fails)

BUT....

The "Neverwinter-Nights" lost the "-Nights" and thus the whole thing crashed (and IGN is trying to fix the mess of the MMORPG and NWN Vault data thrashed)

SO....

Supposedly the entire vault loss was due to the single character "-", or the fact that all the vault archived wiki data got mixed together/mis-filed...

AND...

They are trying to fix it, ASAP...

THE GOOD NEWS

There are multiple copies saved on usb, and are being "clouded" so migrant workers can upload all of the hall of fame content that we want

(and weed out all the low quality content we don't)

THE SUPER GOOD NEWS

The new vault forum has request threads, were you can ask for a specific project or set of files, such as tilesets, systems, modules, or any other content, usually you can expect only a delay of a day or two max if it is recoverable.

blah... i let it '<img'>

but i must say that i have downloaded a lot of content already from our new home and i love it. The descriptions are very good and you dont have to search trough the comment section where alot of insults and just rants were posted between real questions, suggestions or answers!

So I guess IGN has been lying about the vault and just hopes everyone will just forget about it. I hope I am wrong but it seems like I am right. If it was going to be fixed it would not take this long.

That at least gives me hope. Like I posted. I hope I am wrong and it does come back.

Yes, they do seem to be taking the restoration of the Vault seriously. From what I can gather the technical problem was a bit of a mess (and given the state of the Vault before it went down, I believe it) and required some sorting out. I'm sure their tech staff can't just drop everything else they're doing, so it taking a couple of months to resolve probably isn't too surprising.

For those who haven't seen all of it, here's the full set of twitter exchanges with IGN management on this.

July 3rd:

Andarian: Neverwinter Nights Vault shut down without warning. Priceless game archive lost. Not cool, @IGN.

Peer Schneider: We were surprised, too. Technical issue + unfortunate redirect. Hopefully we can restore!

July 4th:

Andarian: Thanks, Peer! Very encouraging news, and appreciated by the NWN community. Tell us if we can help!

Balkoth: Very hopeful to hear that. Still thousands of people playing and using the vault.

Talmadge Blevins: Yep, it's a great resource for modules, mods and files! Thx 4 feedback!

July 9th:

Balkoth: Any update on having the NWN vault functional? Really confusing lot of new people.

July 20th:

Balkoth: It's been 10 days since the message on the NWN wiki. Any update on the vault fix?

July 24th:

Peer Schneider: Thanks for your patience! We backed up the site to prevent loss of content. There continue to...

Peer Schneider: .....be security issues (malware intrusions/hacks) that prevent us from restoring. Not forgotten!

Balkoth: Thanks, relief to hear. Any eta? A few days? A week? A month? Half a year? Trying to manage expectations.

Peer Schneider: Weeks, hopefully! The other big site archive is 1UP. Same/different challenge.

Andarian: Thanks! Your diligence and response on this is very much appreciated.

Am very thankful for your efforts on keeping us updated, guys.  And thanks too for those folks at IGN who are working at this.

I know others have moved onto the new site.  And I'm sure that is the future for uploading/downloading NWN material as time goes on.  I realize the new vault is still a work in progress, but I still enjoyed visiting the old vault.  I knew where most things I needed was and if I didn't, I knew how ot find it.   For me, navigating the newer one isn't as easy.  At least for myself.

So I hope it does come back in a reasonably similar form as it did last time.  And in the meantime, I will continue to look at the new vault too.

Thanks again for everyone here keeping us updated on the situation!

There's still plenty of scope to help with migrating content to the new vault. No special skills required. Contact Rolo Kipp if you can spare a few hours.

Better to finish the job on a site we control ourselves than to speculate about IGN, I'd suggest.

The new site is really coming along now and kudos to everyone who helped, contributed, or just cheered on the effort.

There has been a  massive surge in uploading in the past week and it looks like anything over a year old was indeed saved.  Some of our newest authors have already begun uploading the most recent modules as well.   '<img'>

The main problem at this point seems to be the tags and indexing system need to be updated to get reliable search results.  Most of the content is broken down by type (modules, haks, etc.) so you don't have to scroll through too many pages to find what you want.

There is also extensive discussion taking place on how the new vault will be run and what the user community wants to see there.

So, IGN may be dying by our favorite game will live to fight another day (or two)!  '<img'>

I hope we can get the old vault back, it was much easier to use than the new vault in my opinion, but of course it can be improved.

Also i hope we dont lose any modules at all, sure there were some lower quality ones but there were a lot of hidden gems in there which didnt get many reviews.
