Been away far too Long... Where are our keys now...
« on: April 09, 2013, 03:58:37 pm »

After the first rush to script a Persistant World I joined and helped many I burnt out and started working on my own projects.  I poked in from time to time for various titles (Dragon Age, Masseffect 2, blah blah)

Now I come back, I wanted to play, in my oppinion, the best RPG since Baulders Gate.  I put my
platnium disk in, it asks for keys, I log into the site...  I can't see my keys I registered online.  I look for support and NWN is a legacy title and i get sent to an unhelpful Atari Page.

I have moved 3+ times and have no clue where to find the Book or Box.  Can I recover the keys without buying it again?

If I have to buy it, I think I can get Diamond for $10.
I just hate Orgin (the new download software from EA, not the original team that worked on Ultima Online when it was the greates MMO ever).

Also saw a new Baldurs Gate that works with Windows 7...

No, you must buy it again. Your keys are long gone.

Yes, you'll have to buy a new copy of NWN, since BioWare/EA shut down the site and servers that held the old registered keys and never got around to restoring them.

You can get a new version of NWN Diamond from gog.com.  Part way down the page is a link to request a unique multiplayer CD key ("Multiplayer notice: ...").  You can install the game with the default key that comes with their download, but you'll need the unique one if you want to play on PWs, since many (like mine) use a scripted security system that ties CD keys to player usernames.

Good Old Games doesn't use EA's downloader.

No you should not need it.  Anyway my xp is that
Diamond is a piece of junk, or has lots of bugs, crashes, toolset won't open.
My suggestion is to re-install what you have of Nwn then go here:

I've found that installing the animation fix from the vault into the override folder (and removing the ww animation from the download as advised on the vault) has made my copy of the game far more stable.  It now only crashes if I get a lot of lag, which you'd expect anyway.

               I actually play from Linux.

I have all expansions.  I don't have the premiums... Not sure if it's working it to try and decrypt them or find/generate offline dat files for them.  If I remember right they were not Bioware content anyway so I'll probably just hit up the Vault for extra modules.  Because the expansions work fine.

I can get the toolset to run via wine if I install fromt he CD and apply the Windows 1.69 update in wine.

For linux install 1.29 Client, 1.62 Client, Platnum CD Files (instead of resource pack), 1.69.  In that order and I get a functional install.

The only lag I get is on that red swirly background.  Might be worth a try.

I had to use about 7 diffrent guides to get it working on CruchBang (Debian Wheezy) 11 with my hardware (Alienware M11xR2) but I have it working, Nvidia Optimus Working, Sound Working (esound compatability via Pulse).  Thought about writing a guide for the install.  Not sure if it would be helpful/welcome.

Guides are always welcome and my experience is that writing them often helps the writer as well as the person(s) who they are written for.

In my experience the GOG an Impulse versions of Diamond are stable as long as you install the 1.69 Critical Rebuild (despite claims that their versions are updated to 1.69). I have three versions of Diamond and one version of Gold running on four different PCs. I have never experienced an issue with any of them that prevents them from running under Windows 7.

Shia-Luck provided this excellant guide - I suggest anyone seeking to run NWN on Win 7 follow it...

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/187/index/3341490

As long as you

1. Install to the main hard disk partition so your NWN main directory is formatted as so (c:/NeverwinterNights/NWN) AND

2. Install the 1.69 Critical Rebuild AND

3. Update your audio and video drivers

You shouldn't have any issues that exclude you from the wonderful world of NWN. ':wizard:'

Well I found one issue so far:
http://social.biowar.../index/16565150

Can't play on network.  Only connections nwmain builds are the GameSpy connections and they time out as the servers are offline.  +connect [iP]:[PORT] does nothing but bring up the main menu. And it never builds any of the Master server connections (I know it is ofline but i should see them built and timeout).  Wierd that it only builds GameSpy connections.

:-(

By network do you mean LAN. I've never had any issues with LAN.

<EDIT>

Now that I'm home and have had time to review your link - that thread refers to Linux. I was talking about the game on Windows 7.  Therefore, I'm not sure how your post - or the one you linked - pertains to anything I posted above.

               Pstemarie,

The OP did mention he was using linux via wine long before you gave the Windows 7 instructions.  His post seems to be a follow up on the following rather than a response to your instructions.

The only lag I get is on that red swirly background.  Might be worth a try.

I
had to use about 7 diffrent guides to get it working on CruchBang
(Debian Wheezy) 11 with my hardware (Alienware M11xR2) but I have it

would be helpful/welcome.
