Replacement for GameSpy server list gone AWOL
« on: December 06, 2012, 12:10:48 pm »

I presume others are also experiencing the loss of the GameSpy list of nwn servers.

Per my post in the DM forum here, I have created a forum where I will be adding servers and IP addresses if DMs ask me to.

You may use the Direct Connect option along with the IP address in the listing to connect to the server.

I hope this forum will not be permanently necessary, but it's as well to have it just in case:

I noticed the same, along with the server log saying: "GameSpy Server Error: No challenge value was received from the master server."

I have a bad feeling about this...

Ouch. I think we need some cross posting in order to make access to server information more available.
NWNConnections could be useful if they cleaned up their server list.

The History tab is still working, so no problems here. But those seeking available options are going to be in need of something rather soon.

Erin and I are working on this very thing for release in PHASE TWO which is due out in 1-2 mos. It will auto verify each server to see if they exist / are online and will continue to list unavailable ones in a separate list or marked as 'historic listing' - THIS IMPROVED LISTING will allow direct connect to the servers once we've resolved a couple technical issues. This would be a great time to sound off and help us solidify the list of features that we intend for neverwinterconnections.com - we are rebuilding this site to last and work well - no reason it could not replace GAMESPY for nwn'ers.

Be well. Game on.

Great news, Ehye. I look forward to it. Thanks.

You should post this to your main thread for NWN Connections. Let everyone know that your are still carrying the torch, and that now is the time for wishes and feedback.

I have been 'bumping' those two posts (general category for nwn and nwn2) for some time trying to keep them updated. We are still seeking original art for some important features of the neverwinterconnections.com site so if you are an artist please contact us!

I looked on nwnx.org  - and it looks like the error message occurs when DNS addresses get updated changed for the master server.
Since we know the master server went offline a year or so ago - I think its likely that the DNS name has been removed or expired - meaning it wont likely be back.

In the mean time - feel free to join TheHub
31.132.2.125:5121

You can list your servers here, and players can enter the server, and then travel to other servers, like an airport.

It looks like IGN no longer owns them (I didn't know that).  They have a status page which shows everything is good: http://status.poweredbygamespy.com/
It does look like they respond on facebook, if anyone is interested in asking them about it: https://www.facebook.com/gamespytech

As I recall this has happened a number of times in the past, and it usually took a couple days to resolve. Hopefully that will be the case here.

If it is the DNS renewal issue, this is an opportunity for Bioware to step up and show us they do still care about us.

I did load NWN 2 for the first time in years. Not only is their master server down too (I guess it was the same one as for NWN 1???), but the server list for game spy is also gone. So this may be something that Bioware, Atari, and EA are all involved with. But the same thing applies, it’s an opportunity for them all to step up to the plate, and show they do care about their customers, both past and present, and are committed to providing their consumers customer support.

On Gamespy's Facebook page, they made a comment on Monday in regards to someone asking about SWAT 4 and Battlefront, which also apparently went down the same way. Here's the reply,

"We recently ran an audit and found games that were not supported by their publisher were still accessing our systems - we've corrected that. The games you list are examples."

So...Uhm. If that applies for NWN, well. This may be it.

Xfire's server listing still works. It doesn't differentiate server genres though. Action servers will be listed alongside Social and what have you. But it's better than nothing.

According to the NWN2 Steam thread, Hasbro is now the publisher for the NWN series, and they pulled NWN2 from Steam. Can't say I surprised, or that I take issue with them pulling the plug on old games. They really could have handled the transition better though, like telling an intern to take 10 minutes to write a press release, or helping the community set up a chat and game listing server.
