You are not meant to play the OC and SoU with the same character. They both start at level 1 and they are supposed to be happening at the same time. Here's a way to get your character from level 1 all the way to level 40. Start with SoU, then play The Nether Scrolls as a bridge module between SoU and HotU, then play HotU, and then play The Sands of Fate series to bring the character the rest of the way to level 40. These builds should do well there.
