Installing NWN Diamond - what mods do I need?
« on: June 09, 2012, 09:01:37 pm »

I'm installing NWN Diamond Edition bought from gog and I wonder what mods and custom content I need to install to get the ultimate experience.

I played NWN way back when it was new but I never finished it but I'm thinking of giving it antoher chance now. I know that the community have created alot of custom content over the years and my question is what custom content I need to install to get the best NWN experience playing the OC.

Thanks

The only things that will directly impact the OC are OVERRIDES (NWNCQ comes to mind)... perhaps the unofficial patch to version 1.70 might impact a few things in the OC too. HAKs won't help you as the HAK must be incorporated into the module when built for any of the HAK's contents to apply in game.

Multiplayer is where you want to go, it is there that the majority of the custom content created by the community is available. Heck, come visit my server sometime if you like. '<img'>

I am not knocking multiplayer, but some people (like me) prefer single-player, where they can be THE hero, rather than one of many. There are lots of great single-player campaigns available, too.

Since you have the Diamond Edition, you'll have both official expan packs, too. After you play the OC (levels 1 - 17 or 18), start a new character in Shadows of Undrentide (levels 1 - 12), then take that character into a bridge module, like the excellent Nether Scrolls (levels 12 - 15), then Hordes of the Underdark (levels 15 - 27 or 28), and finally, the Sands of Fate series, which will bring the character all the way to level 40.

After that, start another new character in the Aielund Saga, which will take you to at least level 36.

All of these and more can be found in the NWN Vault.

Thank you for offering up such a great explanation, I second
the path Empyre65 posted. I somehow missed the sands of fate series so now I am
off to download some new mods to play.

The one great thing about this game is that it does offer
expansive opportunities for both single player and multiplayer. In addition the
toolset allows you to build the adventures you would like to play as well.

All in all this great game  keeps reaching out and either finding new
people to enjoy it, or old players to return and remember why they like this
game.

Some tips for the Sands or Fate: When you start, you will be in a desert, where the sun will bake you if you are wearing armor, so you need to not depend on armor, or you need to have fire immunity. Also, some enemies can only be kiled with acid damage. That's about all that requires some sort of pre-planning.

One hak package you should look into is the Community Expansion Pack. It's a staple in MP and quite a few SP mods use it, too.

Hi...just finished my first (of many) playthrough of the Diamond version.

Are there any user expansions that include Valen? Or really any of the companions, but I definitely prefer Valen.

It is a compilation of files installed into the NWN game directory that changes the way the game works, sometimes drastically.  CEP is probably the most commonly used compilation for custom content and PWs.

PRC Pack can also be installed into OC modules. It allows to play many new classes and races. It contains hundreds of new spells/psionic powers/invocations etc. I can't remember when I last played NWN module without it '<img'>
