Does It Work Properly On New Systems?
« on: April 10, 2012, 12:53:49 pm »

I've recently found my disk for my old dimond collection and started playing it agian so i've been out of the loop for a long time. I'm on a windows 7 (i've already found the patches to make the game work) and have all my settings maxed out but all the graphics. excluding the iventory and items in it, are blurred low res images. I have wached videos to make sure i'm not just remebering it better but thats not the case. For example wooden barrels and boxes have depth, markings and look like boxes but in mine their just a brown cube. And another big one are brick roads, you supposed to see the indvidual bricks but I just see a long grey area. So, my question is, is this normal for new systems or is there something messed up with my game.

The answer to your topic question is probably "yes" but it may take a bit of creative experimentation on your part before that happens. '<img'>

Check the Tech Support subforum, especially Shia's Win7 sticky to make sure you have installed it properly and then make sure you used the Critical Rebuild for Diamond to patch up to v1.69.

Depending on your graphics card manufacturer, you may need to play around with drivers and various game settings (like shiny water & the sound toggle) to get it to perform optimally.  Also, that CPU affinity can be toggled if you use a multicore rig.  DirectX 11 can cause rendering problems on some systems so try a lower version as a test.  Until you get the vanilla game operating to your satisfaction, make sure your override and hak folders are clean of customizations, then move them back after graphics is fixed, if applicable.

Just check some of the related topics in the tech area... the ones about your specific config most of all... and then post your full specs in that forum (See the "Starts Here" sticky) if you can't hash it out.

Just be sure to download your latest driver, I wouldn't expect the latest video cards to support the game, so if at all possible, use older ones!  Ideally NWN Runs best on a faster Dual Core, because it uses only one Thread / Core, and the other core can be used to handle other task, so make sure that you get at least a 3.0 GHz Dual Core...  You can still get Legacy Cards like the NVIDIA GT & GS Series, and you should be able to get drivers from them from NVIDIA, personally I always save old video cards or snag them up whenever possible...

I know NWN runs fine under Windows 7, don't know about Windows 8 though, I should have tried it out, as I have the Windows 8 Preview...

Anyway, hope that helps...
