Well, unfortunately I missed the date line, as I was on vacation *grumbles*

However, as I don't like MMOs anyway...

*shrugs*

Just tried it now...just to make sure. Yeah....you don't get any closer to WoW than this.

Shame...the graphics are good (except you cant have NWN style cam) and the story choices feel kinda cool...actually the last part was that kept me going for a few hours....but the combat is zzzzzzwowzzzzzzz.....

Because it's an MMO and MMOs suck no matter how well they're designed.

RPG players like us are all about story, character and immersion.

It's hard to maintain a sense of immersion when almost everyone you meet is a jedi. It get's even harder when you find yourself being griefed by a guy named "SC3W3DyoMAMMA69" who keeps calling you Noob.

As I stated many times MMO doesn't have to mean WoW and clones!

MMO only says that a game is multiplayer, its online....and its somewhat massive. That is to some extent NWN PW servers and I am pretty sure we will sooner or later have MMO experiences that cater more to hardcore players like ourselves....just a question of time...

I was also very disappointed with SWOTR.  Played somewhere between 12-18 hours total.

Graphics?  Nah, about equal to what we can achieve in NWN with the better things that have been learned since/with the 1.69 patch.  Everything outdoors was a speedtree plant, grass or building.  In fact, the graphics actually looked very flat, dull or blah instead of what I know is possible with the newer hardware/software out there now.  However, the graphics were acceptable.

Story/quest lines were fine, and being such a large world(s) there were hundreds of them.

My biggest complaint is that there were no henchmen available for solo players to be able to achieve higher quests/levels etc, you are forced to join a party... and although I attempted that at least with 20 different folks, I was never able to find anyone willing to join up.

Servers were all full, which is to be expected on such a large open beta, and even when flagged as full, I was able to log onto at least one of them.  Some were reporting upwards of 4 hour wait times though.

For this game, they really need to provide a local play environment to allow a player to get used to how things work before dumping the player into such a large environment.

There are a very wide variety of races/character types to choose from, and each likely has it's own individual aspects to make the game more interesting.  However, without knowing that prior to logging in, you are basically at a loss as to what type to play and how to level them up etc.  (All of which will be solved by fan created wiki's eventually I am sure).  This is not a place to jump into and start playing, if you want to maximize your experience, you really should spend hours reading online what is already available on character/race options etc.

Overall, I guess it is what you would expect from an MMO, and yet still missing large features that would make it more enjoyable for folks from the NWN world(s).

I'll have a full review of the game on Harvest Moon Consortium later this week that covers both Player stuff and Design stuff. Bannor and I will work together on it.

Hmm. Actually I though it was pretty simple to figure out what to do. You just talk to people and do missions. You get information on where all the quests are by looking at your map. Sure there were some things I had to figure out, but for seasoned game players it should be fairly easy. I only got to 12th level, but got off planet to Corusant and with my henchman. I might just get it for the architecture, which is pretty spectacular. Of course if you play on a pve server then no pvp is allowed, and from what I read the pvp was way cool. True though at times I felt well it just is not as good as NwN with all the subtle details you can get and to know that almost everyone is doing the same thing as you are. Still all in all I think it will be a hit. Better than WoW imho.
As far as parties it's true that most everyone was just doing their own thing, though I got into around 5 parties for short periods of time.  I would just follow some people as they took on tough stuff and blast some things and they would send me an invite.  After we got through the tough stuff the party usually went bust.  Of two people I asked, one accepted, I just want to test out the trade social thing very similar to NwN.  My favorite thing was just hopping on a speeder and going from place to place, it's a nice touch. A pleasant experience overall.
Finally I did all the heroic quests prior to being a hero, that's when you get your henchman, but I just grouped with another player who was heroic, i.e. they had a henchman, and together we just annihilated the heroic quests.

Uhhh I know I got some henchmen on each of my characters. You can only have 1 at a time, but they more than allowed me to handle every quest outside the flashpoints. I did do the first flashpoint on the Republic side as well and it took me maybe 10 minutes to put together a group.

Honestly I really liked it and will probably play it off and on with friends for a change of pace to my NWN DMing.

Actually Six, you SHOULD be taking it as a compliment on how much BETTER NWN has become due to folks like you and many others that have pushed the graphics envelope of NWN up as far as it has gone.

What I am saying is that I was very disappointed with the graphics, nothing special there, and in fact, VERY flat textures, meaning no details built in.  They appear to be relying on the shape of the object to actually provide shadows etc (which they did) and a little bit of 3d type depth to the textures, but they fell FLAT, no details at all.  Basically it looked like they took an object and painted it grey, or brown or whatever, with no additional detail built into the texture itself.

Facially, they did better, but trooper armour, heck EVERY armour that I saw, looked flat, boring, textured boxes type.

Not sure that I can explain it any better than that.

Well, I searched around and found that Best Buy is selling the Collector's Edition for $150 with no mention of how many months of play you get for that price.  Direct online download sells the game with 6 months of access for $75... sorry, too much money for too little gain.

Bannor and I have been working on a full review of the game minus scripting things like Ai. Neither of us really had the time detail and test the scripting in KWTOR. you can find the review here. Please do not comment until we are completely finished. I'll let you know on the thread.
