                <trying to be helpful...>

You can find the Critical Rebuild at the NwN Player page.

You can also find a lot of great help on the Support forum (bottom of the index), including the great "Installing NWN1 for Win7/vista including patch links for all OS."

               Also, keep in mind that you may not need to patch at all, depending on the source of your game installation.

If you have recently downloaded the game from GOG, then it is already patched to the most recent version (1.69). If you installed from physical media, your game might need updating. For example, Diamond Edition was released with patch 1.66 on the disks. Except for a brief period (before Jan 2011) when GOG had a not-quite-complete 1.69 release
(said it was 1.69, but some resources were missing), a GOG install should not need patching.

If you open the options menu in the game, it will show what your patch version is.

               To further add some mud... some people who got their game from GoG (v1.69) still found that they needed to run the Critical Rebuild.

It's a good file to download and store somewhere on your system or thumb drive... "just in case".

               "just in case"...
I have a bad feeling about this, like the whole NWN library could disappear in a blink.
Without even blinking.

*Good* idea!

That's such a good idea, I just dropped it into Sugarsync :-P
I *really* need a new laptop, and when I do, I'll need to re-install Diamond Ed. again.

Don't Panic!

(You can simply network the laptops and copy the install to the new one, or use a flash drive. No installing necessary. Tho I'd still get the patch somewhere safe if I were you *grin*.)

Sounds like that might work... if a buggy driver for synching my Razr phone hadn't fried my USB ports (and my favorite drafting mouse!) or the ethernet connection still worked...

But the wireless works...

So the game doesn't use the registry or other foolishness? *Just* the NwN directory?

               There are some regestery keys with NWN.   The only reason you would need them though is if you are installing one of the patches.  Since the game is no longer being patched there is no longer a need for the regestery settings.

               The only reason to "Install" the game is to have shortcuts created in the programs list or on the desktop.  Since you can right click the .exe and create your own shortcuts and copy the shortcuts to your desktop and/or programs lists, there is actually no reason to re-install if you have a working copy.

               <makes a complicated gesture...>

Thank you both. Sometimes I misplace Occam's Screwdriver and make things more complicated than they need to be.

               Stop it, will you! Don't talk to me like that. I might listen.
Then I can barely write you back anymore! As I'm roflamoing all over already!
Geee! Some people!
<looking deadly serious...>  just watch me: ':crying:'':wizard:'':devil:'':bandit:'':police:'':bandit:''<img'>           :innocent:   'B)'

You're the one who wrote that, aren't you:
"I think our problem is the god. Why can't you buy gods at the local hardware store like you can screwdrivers ?"
Or was it: "In its original form, Occam's razor only says that one should choose the "simpler" theory among those that predict equally well."
Watch this...

               <girding his...>

As I enjoy you writing me back, I will stop it.

As soon as I locate it and train a few felines to chase it and play with it...

Oh, sorry. Back to the original post :-P
