Is this game supposed to be so ridiculously easy?
« on: September 19, 2011, 11:58:49 am »

I might have to whack the difficiculty up to the last notch but that's not what I mean (mainly). I am constantly finding items all the time, potions are everywhere I practically have no need to ever buy anything and my money is just skyrocketing.

I have just begun my second dictrict at the start of the game, I was loving it but when is the challenge gonna come into it?

Are you supposed to have so much money that you never need to worry about it?
Are you supposed to have so many items you never need to worry about them?

I think I'm going to try Baldurs Gate instead '<img'>

I want to play single player, do you know if Baldurs Gate 2 is a good single player experience?

Most players had opposite problem, but yes for someone who already played NWN online or who played newer games like WoW, Lineage, Metin etc the OC is going to be pretty easy.

All you can do is to play on highest difficulty level that is Very difficult (I assume you already do?). Alternatively I could post you and override where monsters on this difficulty doing even more damage but that would be actually quite unplayable and you would workaround it via ranged weapons/spell anyway so it would became just annoying that you cant go melee.

Oh you can also install Tony K's AI and set smarter monsters (link somewhere here: http://social.biowar...9/index/3275241). Also you can decide not to use meatbag henchman.

If you want a challenge try some online world, The Three Towns is a good action challenge. Baldurs Gate has definitely better story and more possibilities but its going to be easy too if you are a pro.':wizard:'

I'm no pro, this is the first D&D game I've played, I don't think they designed this game right.

Yes I changed it to the second to max, and the difficulty is the same, I am now about to try the highest setting.

What class of PC are you playing? I never found the OC that easy myself, but I never played a melee class in it either. And always on the highest difficulty level, the only one making a little sense in my opinion, and never without Tony K's AI either. Oh, I almost forgot: turn off the Godmod... '<img'>

I don't know if the hardest mode "makes more sense".

I think D&D Hardcore is the one that makes most sense.

Anyway....you could try some player made modules from the vault. They're probably better than the OC....but you'd have to ask any of the other guys who know about single player...

The Aeilund series and C: KR were good places for me to test builds, and were quite fun as well. Both have lots of magic, but if you can keep from hoarding it should be rather challenging.

I think the difficulty settings mainly just effect casters, who, when they cast spells have to deal with the damage as well, if the spell is near them.  Sure it may increase damage, but it you don't build your game on easy, test to make it challenging at easy, then the difficulty slider will really not have much effect, in my honest opinion.

I made my first module, The Underworld, on easy, but I made it rather challenging at that level, the moment you switch it to normal or hard, the players started to drop like flies, lol.

Furthermore, if you like it real rough, you could use a custom 2da to increase damage to 200+ % for monsters and cut your damage in 1/2 (to 50%).  Just a suggestions, as this game truly can be tailored specifically to ANYONES taste, outside only of Graphics, which really cannot be enhanced or modified out of what you see.

As mentioned before, install Tony K AI for smarter foes: Casters will summon familiars, those with hide skill will stay hidden and attack you and when they get Near Death they get Hasted.. Additionally, play on hardest difficulty (I think monsters do 50% more damage this way).

You may find money and stuff all around but they are basic cheap stuff. For example, if you play Monk, try buying those Robes and Boots. You have to reach quite some adventuring (level 6 I think to be able to buy them - unless using Tony K and OHS you take your henchmen's inventory and sell... which is kinda cheating...

What is your build anyway?

The OC (i.e. the plague campaign) was INTENDED to be a learning campaign to allow new players to get acclimated to the various features of playing NWN without them getting frustrated by the vast challenge that can built into the game by gifted designers.  One should glean the RP aspects by following the storyline of that campaign and enjoy the tale itself.  If you enjoy the H&S aspects of RPG gaming most, you'll be disappointed playing the OC.

I'd recommend trying several different classes in the OC since you won't experience all the opportunities just playing with a basic fighter (like the arcane- and druid-specific quests).

Games like BG are basically stand-alone games that need to rely on the original "version" to gain popularity.  NWN's potential goes w-a-a-a-a-y beyond that scope.

As others have already mentioned, the true challenge is revealed through playing community-made content, on-line servers and even the OC expansions are more demanding.

The OCs are painfully easy.  There is almost nothing that you can do to make them difficult.  The sliders just give your opponents more hps, etc.  It does NOT make the AI better, etc.

Tony K's AI will make it a bit harder, but not really hard.

Try playing through with only a dagger. *winks*

You will still win as a Wizard.

BGII will give you a better challenge.

For real challenges, you will need to go online and play on a server like Higher Ground.  You will be acquainted with challenge then.  WoG also is pretty challenging, as some here can contest to.
