Looking for an assassin build
« Reply #60 on: August 15, 2011, 07:23:21 pm »

@Lowlander--- Kail has been building characters for Neverwinter Nights 1 for over 5 years.  I've seen Kail work first hand for many years.  Some I dislike some I approve.  Yet you seem lost in your ways to think Kail is trying to discredit your improvements, but he was pointing out you traded more than just BAB and HPs, but traded Saving Throws.  In D&D games saving throws mean more than being able to avoid melee or hiting targets with melee.

As far as you insults to Shia were uncalled for.  One thing to disagree with someone, but to be out right rude by mocking someone name is just flat out grounds for being moderated by forums Mods and Admins.  Be greatful she didn't resort to reporting you for that.

@ C Barchuk I would second that Ranger Multiclassed with Assassin is about the closest combination to what your looking for with minimum investment.  You get Dual Weilding free so long as you wear anything that is Leather based (Studded being the highest armor class I recall).  If you should want Epic Dodge you can get it with 10 Shadowdancer lvls added in with the build.  If you haven't seen the Stalker EBC before I suggest you find it.  Its a 9 Ranger/ 10 Shadowdancer/ 21 Assassin build.  It can achieve Epic Dodge and Self Concealment V, if you choose to go that route.  What the build does is take the need to add 3 feats to an already feat starved build.  As you will be needing to take Mobility and Dodge to get Shadowdancer requirement.  Meaning with the 3 saved feats you can afford to get a Toughness, or any other feat you like.  As for most melee builds I would recommend getting Blind Fighting.

Look, there are probably (let's say for sure) ones that I myself dislike eh-eh. And even if one dislikes some I like, no worries we don't all have the same tastes and playstyle so waht' sgood for one may be bad for another.

Yet you seem lost in your ways to think Kail is trying to discredit your improvements, but he was pointing out you traded more than just BAB and HPs, but traded Saving Throws.  In D&D games saving throws mean more than being able to avoid melee or hiting targets with melee.

In a roundabout way I was trying to let him figure out he actually managed to pull off also a good trade of 1 Ref save for 1 Fort save and that the FTR 8/Rogue 12 is a better split than FTR 9/Rogue 11. I'll be more direct next time '<img'>

That pissed me off, I have to admit. Shia's a great gal and i may be a little old fashioned when it comes to the way one should be addressing ladies, ah!

I treat everyone on the internet the same regardless of avatar. If someone annoys me, I annoy them back. It is as simple as that. My so called insult was a minor trifle in the extreme, not 1/10th of what Kail regularly dishes out to those who disagree with him. I don't see him issuing any apologies.

I don't dish out anyhting to those that disagree. I call a fool a fool though, and you make a fool out of yourself pretty regularly. Your posts are full to the extreme of strawman arguments, blatant (and purpouseful?) lack of understanding and lack of facts; what should I call you? And considered the intellectual arrogance you regularly show off, how else should I treat you?

Now, if someone disagrees and can bring arguments that can be called such and considered the offspring of an intelligent mind, they are all my guests: no one that has brought real and well supported arguments has ever been treated with anything else but respect from my side. The fact you don't get any from me, is a clear indication of the level of your arguments.

And no, I'll not apologize to you for calling you a moronic idiot and a fool: that's exactly what you show to be with your obnoxious strawman and ill founded reasoning. You belong to the intellectual scum of the world, judging from what you write here.

My standards start at my level, so they are pretty low ones. The fact you don't meet them says a lot.

Let me count how many people got called fools here, let's see you and your poor friend ShaDoOow (someone that stubbornly mixes up the oncept of fix and modification, and it's not a matter of language it's a matter of understanding) who, among the rest, think there can be cheating in SP '<img'>:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:O:O:O:O:O:O:O:O

The funny thing is that I wouldn't even need to explicitely state anything, since you make such a good job yourself showing off as one: this thread and a couple of others are a clear example of it:strawman arguments all over the place, a (stubborn?) incapacity to understand what is being said, delusions of grandeur, etc.

So, not 1/10th because all the others do not deserve 1/10th of it. You, instead, do.

I made mistakes as did Shadow and you gleefully jumped on the chance to hurl insults at both of us repeatedly. Congratulations.

Other have simply left before things went that far, like during the initial cheating discussion where I couple of Mod authors also disagreed with you and you essentially just kept at them until they gave up and left in exasperation.

There is no room here for a dissenting opinion as you will either find a crack to wedge in insults or drive off the more careful, by wearing them down.

It must make you mighty proud to be King of your little fiefdom.

The repeatedly applies to your mistakes first and foremost, the same mistakes over and over, the same strawman over and over, the same "I'll read what I want to read and not what is written" over and over (as it happened in this thread; maybe you do not believe I think you can say things that make sense? Because I do think that you are capable of that, every now and then you indeed pull it off)... it's getting stale

Other have simply left before things went that far, like during the initial cheating discussion where I couple of Mod authors also disagreed with you and you essentially just kept at them until they gave up and left in exasperation.

Oh, the mind reader! You know other's motives and reasons with such clearness! What else to expect by a delusional OP?  (and besides, I left that thread without answering at some point given RL taking over with more important stuff than stating truisms like "there can be no cheating in SP". Oh look, 2+2=4, so you are also pretty much wrong on the whole of the subject... it must suck to be you, getting pubblicly spanked so often)

There is no room here for a dissenting opinion as you will either find a crack to wedge in insults or drive off the more careful, by wearing them down.

I have conceded many a point to all that have brought reasonable arguments. And that includes you, in this same thread where you proposed an improvement to a rogue/FTR/SD build. Pity that sound reasoning is episodic with you...

It must make you mighty proud to be King of your little fiefdom.

I'm just king nothing and a fool knowing not to know, surpassed in glory, knowledge and nobility by a million beings. Nothing to be proud of, really.

But then again, better than being the one that insults Shia. You won't have any respect out of me because of that alone, "I will hunt you down and tear you limb from limb" and I'll then proceed to "****** upon your grave" (which is evidently metaphorical, but one can never be sure what someone will want to understand).

Gosh. Now I am ashamed. How could I be such a fool do not agree with your highest truth?

Do you know who are you? Just an egomaniac that can't withstand anyone who do not agree with him. And I dont agree with you almost in everything.

Just posting to say a heartfelt "Thank you" for the support from those who did after that nasty attempt to belittle me.

I had hoped to finish work and find at least a backhanded apology, but ...

...anyway... this is someone else's thread and assassins need all the love they can get, and it's totally not fair to the OP to have his/her thread derailed by the actions of one... [fill in the blank with an adjective of your choice]

Back to topic *smiling*

Have fun '<img'>

Oh fer cryin' out loud!  Kail and I have had many disagreements, so has MM and Kail, The Cinn, heck, even the legendary Dwarflord himself has!

Kail never "lashed out" at any of them (or me), for the reasons that he stated in this thread.  Succinctly put, if one can actually offer a reasoned reply (re: one that actually makes sense) AND refrains from insults (which is basically in my book the "last resort"), then having a debate with Kail is often fun, challenging, and immensely rewarding!

Many a revelation and a wild ride into the guts of NWN have taken place during such a monumental debate!

I will give both Kail and Shia direct credit for turning me on to the MMM, for example.  Especially the 1 level drop in Cleric with the Animal Domain for the increased summons...woohooo!  I mean, 1 level gets you the Armor feats, Shield feat, Simple weapon feat, etc.  Plus one more Domain as well.

That kind of got my attention...hehe.  Thanks, Shia.  Kail turned me on to 1 level of Fighter, I believe, and that got me thinking of combining Ranger and Assassin..a build that I have used very successfully!  It is actually one of my favs, tbh.  Nothing like having a full-fledged Mage that can do a very nice Death Attack, and then tear into the hapless foe with Dual weapons!  It actually can make low level Summons useful!  Kail also came up with a darned genius strategy involving low Summons...something I myself would probably never of thought of!

What I always find to be amusing, is that it seems to mostly be the "same ol'" individuals that get into a *tiff* with Kail.

Whatever.

Back to the topic - this kind of takes us to the "meat" (or essence) of "what is multi-classing good for?"

Basically, to improve your character, and to give her unique abilities and access to skills and feats that she would otherwise not have (as well as better capabilities).

So exactly where does that start (and end, for that matter)?  I propose that it can start (and end) the moment that one has acquired that which one desires, basically.

So is a Wiz 36/Rng 2/Ass 2 an Assassin?  My answer would be - sure, why not?  Only my Assassin RELIES on the arcane to accomplish her work - that of assassination. She  uses the Death Attack and access to the skills of an Assassin, to be sure.  The build has a lot of synergy going for it, really.

However, if the OP doesn't want to play this way, that is fine!  It surely is not for everyone.

You dont need "build" for OC. Anything should be viable to complete it so try to make your own. I would start with rogue and then added assassin if you like this class so much. And then you will see what third class will fit your character.
