Neverwinter Nights>Baldurs Gate 2
« Reply #15 on: October 13, 2011, 04:50:25 pm »

I would say the Story of BG2 is superior to NWN.

However, Neverwinter Nights does provide more expandability and possibilities than BG2 Ever did.

3D Building capabilities, scripting language which is accessible via toolset and more.

I personally, would love to see Baldurs Gate re-made in 3d, like nwn.

Remember the loading tips for bg2 - they said we would be able to continue the adventure in nwn, and import our characters.
I would love the community to develop a mod that allows such a thing to be possible.

Baldurs Gate to NWN Character converter or something.
Would be great.

For what it's worth, I seem to be at the opposite end of the spectrum regarding preferences and would personally disagree with almost everything the OP writes.

I love Torment, hold BG2 in high esteem and find NWN's OC kind of meh. Then again, I can appreciate good writing and prefer gripping stories to epic randomness, I don't feel any urges to kill off all NPCs I don't like and would think such behavior the most base and uninteresting representation of an evil PC. Torment offers satisfying options for an evil PC, but they're more subtle and there's no clear black and white. I don't think the same could be said of NWN, but I might be mistaken as I never bothered to complete the OC. Anyway, to each their own. The world would be a boring place if everyone liked the same things. '<img'>

And I will admit, that in BG1 (yawn!) I too was annoyed at Minsc whining and turning against me, and that I got rid of Jaheira by allowing a wild bear to prey on her, while her companion wasn't looking. Now if that isn't evil, I don't know. '<img'>

Btw, if you haven't done so yet, check out the community modules on IGN Vault - there should be lots of well-made modules for evil characters.

I've been watching a Youtube Let's Play of Baldur's Gate 2 of the misadventures of Lilly Black. Currently, I'm up to video 157 and tend to watch them like it's a TV show -- it's more interesting some nights -- and have enjoyed the memory blast.

Lilly Black has ventured to many places in the realms and the user has posted many game playing videos for Baldur's Gate and Neverwinter Nights as well.

FP!

NWN's oc was a bit disjointed, a lot of quests that didn't fit all that well together at times.  What make NWN perhaps the best game of all time is the mutliplayer with DM and player made modules.  Best RPG hands down if played properly.

LOL. OP lost me completely. After reading the first paragraph I kinda decided his opinion was meaningless.

In the future when playing a good RPG, and BG2 was a GOOD RPG, if you intend to run around slaughtering entire villages you might want to leave Aerie, the LAWFUL GOOD elf, behind.

Jeeze.

I keep hearing from my buddies that you can transfer your BG@ files to Neverwinter Nights, but it requires something, and they NEVER tell me what it is! Can anyone shed some light on this plzzz????

I believe this was the original plan, and was discussed quite a bit during the early stages of NWN production, but changes to the core mechanics (primarily the change from 2e to 3e) prevented this. The concept of being able to transfer or import from BGII to NWN was excised fairly early on.

It's actually a loadscreen tip, I think in BG1. You can't though. Different rulesets for one.

Why did I bother reading the OP? As soon as I read "Baldur's Gate 2 was meh and NWN2 was good" I should have smelt the garbage and left.

(Yeah I know he didn't say those exact words about NWN2 but he's singing its praises even though it's blasphemy to NWN1 just as Neverwinter Online will be)

I mean his criticisms about Baldur's Gate 2 weren't even legit. "Jheria didn't like me murdering people and neither did the paladin guy and therefore Baldur's Gate 2 sucks!" Yeah, they were good aligned characters so that's expected really. Baldur's Gate 2 is a game about choices, story, characters and consequences and you're not forced to any party. It seems the OP couldn't handle a complex RPG where your choices actually have consequences. The guy then goes on to list how he simply enjoys killing mobs in RPG's. He probably thinks Dragon Age 2 is the best thing to ever happen to gaming.

Agreed.

I'm out of here.
