The original post predated the actual outage by 7 days.  Since the Master Server went down on June 29th, there has been no official response.  There's a lot of speculation, but no solid information.  Can we get an official answer to the following questions?

- Is the server coming back?

- What is the cause of the outage?  Was this part of an upgrade task to bring the retooled authentication service back online or was it brought down until the retooled authentication service is ready to be fielded?

- Is there a schedule or estimate when the server will be back online?  If not, are we talking days, weeks, months?

               They've already answered the first two of those questions quit satisfactorily, and the third less so:

Plans change especially when money is involved.  I'd just like confirmation one way or the other if this is still on track.  Many people, myself included, assumed that the 29th outage was a temporary measure while they were swapping in the "retooled" Master Server.  Seems not to be the case, but confirmation would be appreciated.

I can deal with it coming back.  I can deal with going away forever.  Having to guess what's going on frustrates me to no end.  What I asked for should have been shared with the community already without prompting.

               So it's not just for NWN, but other games as well? You'd think the masses would be screaming. I know when Sony was hacked people were screaming bloody murder about the PS network being down.

It was. I wasn't posting to argue with you, merely to inform you that Bioware had in fact responded and stated that they would bring the server back as soon as possible, contrary to your remarks:

Why has it been down? Seriously, slap some cd key authentication of your own down and fire it up.  I'm happy to provide the scripts - they're very straightfoward, and provide at least MS-quality protection.

Why do you need to use a custom auth thingie?

I mean why not do like every other servers and just ignore this?

You mean just because auth fails anyone can log in to your account. Isn't it just when auth is totally OFF on the server (server ini-file) that thoose kinds of problems arise? ...or is there something I am not getting..?

Just Bioware haven't gotten back on when yet.

               Starting to look to me like EA has no intention of paying for the bandwidth to host an authentication server - especially when you can disable Master Server Authentication.

Yeah, yeah - I knoiw its BioWare's game, but since EA ultimately pays the bills...

That's in the first post in this thread which is now over two weeks old.  "As soon as possible" is one of those wonderfully vague press-release corpspeak phrases that really don't say anything.  This needs to be clarified and it's really poor form to leave the community hanging.

From what I understand NWN authentication was incorporated into thier common authentication service.  In essence it's "free".  Until it breaks and you need to expend engineering resources on it.  If what broke is unique only to games that are end-of-life then it's likely that their commitment to fixing it may not get management approval.
