So where do I get my cd-key back now? :)
« on: June 19, 2011, 08:08:02 pm »

At old age, I've grown tired of carrying my cd cases with me everywhere etc. I used the old nwn.bioware.com site to register my games so I could get my cd keys anywhere anytime I'd need them. But now with the new update I cant really find them. Are they still located somewhere in this new site? Or do I practically have to go get a new game if I ever want to install them again? (Currently, Its luckily installed so I can just dig the keys up from the confs)

Also is there going to be an option to add legacy games to the owned games list like before? I happened to like that feature ':crying:'

Humm I did spot a cheap bargain for the game at a local store and I guess I'll get new cds and keys and all, but still, can I locate my old keys somewhere? Or did they disappear along with the community changes?

Try reading that 'nwncdkey.ini' file in your NWN directory. Your current keys should be in it.

That would work, assumed that I'd still have the game installed and located somewhere in my disk.

Ugghhh. I have absolutely no good news for you.

You won't be able to recover your CD Keys from bioware until they get the information migrated over onto a new, secure server.

And no, as far as we know there are no plans to allow legacy registrations, which is why many of us old timers have begun integrating our legacy games into our signatures.

The best way to get a legal CD key is just to buy a new copy of the game at GoG.com. The game will install with a generic cd key that won't allow multiplayer. You can then request a custom key that takes 2-3 business days to arrive (although mine came in less than three business hours). The gog version is 1.68, so you'll need to patch it to 1.69.

i have the same issue. just had a hankering for some old NWN, i dont like NWN2 enough to revisit it, lol. so i thought i would go all the way back to NWN1. so for someone like me who has been buying and playing games (MOSTLY PC) for the last 20 years, its a pain in the ass to keep track of loose materials. i'm glad that games are made and released with DVD boxes now but i had a box of old jewel case instructions that have all gone missing. temple of elemental evil, dragonshard, icewind dale 2, all codes gone....

i have all the NWN1 disks and x-packs in that crappy lil box that they gave us with one of the expansions but no sign of codes... shame.

Never noticed if it was set 168 or not but there is a patch that you can download witch should be the very last patch of the 1.69 build. At least I have only used that and I have zero issues with it. You have ot make sure that once you buy from GoG.com that you do dl the patch if you do it yourself. If you use the GoG Downloader, it should install it when prompted to. Haven't used the DLer so I am guessing on that. Though the forums there have plenty of tips and help like here.

If at any point you backed up your hard disk drive when you had NWN installed, you should be able to copy over the install folder to your computer and the game should run.

Or you could get it at GOG, as mentioned.  It's pretty cheap and they run a great site.

You can find the CD INSTALL keys printed inside the front cover of the game manual. You do keep the manuals, don't you?   '<img'>

Shadows of Undrentide came with loose keys printed on a small piece of red paper. I copied it into the front cover of the manual.
