ShaDoOoW, Bio has already changed your password. All you need to do is go through the password recovery process to get it back.

You need to realize that such takes time.  I think that is why there were violent reactions in this case, as it appeared that the Legacy forums just went *poof!* without warning.

Action -> Reaction, that sort of thing.

At least I'm not the only one who recognizes the obvious causality.  That about sums it up, Web.

The real issue, at least for me, is that a huge knowledge base has been rendered indisposed (although some of it was archived via the cited links given throughout this thread).  The "rights" to use this information is not bestowed by playing the game or not playing the game, but rather by virtue of serving as a contributing author of valuable resources, most of which the newer players don't even know exists.  But there are almost 9 years of NWN community effort at stake.

Since there was never any concrete drop-dead date published by Bioware, just the warning that there was no guarantee that the legacy information would remain accessible indefinitely, I, along with many others, expected that either via email, the social forum or some reasonable canvass, there would be a final announcement published prior to the manic scurrying to grab any data before it vanishes.

I hope that when our local public library decides to trash an entire section of literature from the stacks, we get more warning than a glimpse of the cloud of smoke from the discard pyre.

FWIW, I regularly search the archive forums for NWN information and I really hope they are back up as soon as a relatively secure way can be found to make it happen. I don't need the site for my CD keys, but I hope that functionality returns as well because I understand how many people use it. I could certainly see why someone might be upset if our hosts had decided to jettison 9 years of NWN activity with no notice.

The problem in this thread is that that decision never happened but there was some reaction as though it had, mostly due to speculating in a very negative way about an event that had many other likely causes besides "EA hates NWN and is closing down the older forum without notice". I have been an admin on a gaming forum that was closed down for an extended period due to hacking. And I have seen many sites down for several days because of routine operations (hardware maintenance, data archiving, software upgrades, etc.) intended to be transparent to the users, but where something unexpected (and often not initially understood) happened and the site was "down" for a while. Basically, there were many other things that could have been at play a few days ago. People speculate all the time and that's fine, but it's unfortunate when people take speculation based on almost no information and use it to impugn others' motives.

However, I hope that Chris and any other Bioware folks reading this thread understand that most of us are grateful for the forums and that not everyone jumped to conclusions at the first sign of trouble. We were waiting for some real information and were confident that you guys would let us know what was going on as soon as you had enough info to say something that didn't generate more questions than it answered. I think that Bioware has come through on that count with the posts explaining that the boards were target of a malevolent hacker and that the boards are down-but-not-gone, as per the following

We turned off public-facing access to the legacy forums for reasons of safety and expediency but are currently working on a plan to bring them back in a way that ensures your information remains safe.  Look for more information on this in the near future as our plans develop.

Thanks.

Mods, if you're monitoring this thread, could you please sticky the thread above with the patch info in it? It might save all of us some grief.

you can however many of us have lost the books or have multipule games so we can be online in several places at once especially pw admins and the like. I have three sets of  seperate game cd keys and luckily have them all down in a special password file.

Yep... me too. Unfortunately, the EF-5 tornado kinda destroyed my computers, CD backups, and all my papers (tons of rain -- no roof left anymore).

I have finally recovered one of my small hard drives and moved the data to this brand new laptop. I'm trying to recover my CD Key text document. Until then, I can't re-install NWN1 or 2.

Thanks from me too for the update, which makes what you posted earlier quite understandable due to stress.

Also, sorry to hear of your misfortune, Chokra Broodslayer!  I really does put everything into perspective.

Thank you, I appreciate it.

Things are looking up... I finally got a new car to replace the one that was destroyed by the tornado.

I'm just glad I wasn't home when it happened or I might not be here to play NWN with you all anymore. More than 154 people died in the 12-mile long and 1-mile wide path of destruction... one of my co-workers (a page designer at my newspaper) lost his life. The last month has been extremely rough.

7th biggest tornado of ALL TIME. Destroyed one of our major hospitals... we didn't even have enough facilities for the wounded. It was pure chaos. Debris flew as far away as more than 500 miles into Indiana. This is the farthest EVER that tornado debris has been recorded. The previous record was 250 miles in 1916.

About 30 percent of our main metro city here was destroyed and 80 percent of one of our suburbs to the east was destroyed. It picked up 9-ton propane truck tractor trailers and tossed them a block and a half. It ripped a major 9-story hospital four inches off its foundation and it was supposed to be able to withstand 300 mile-per-hour winds.

On a positive note, I was less than 5 feet from President Obama as I photographed him as part of the presidential motorcade and my images went out over the Associated Press wire service. He toured the devastated region and spoke to residents about their experience.

I'm currently living with my sister until I can get a new place... unfortunately, more than 30 percent of the housing is gone.

Also, I was interviewed by USA Today a few days after the May 22 tornado. They spoke to me about losing my massive Star Wars and Lord of the Rings memorabilia collections.

Thanks for the sympathy. Things are looking up. All things heal in time. I feel fortunate that I have my life and my job. It does put things into perspective for you. My family has been amazing at helping my brother (my roommate) and I through this difficult time.

Known you a long time now Chrokra and feel for you. Three tornados ripped through my own home  town in western pa the day I graduated high school on May 31rst 1985. We didn't loose our home but I knew many who did.

Sorry If I wasn't clear in my previous message.I am a registered game owner with for all 3 modules of NWN1 and NWN2 with Bioware.

Is it possible to send me a valid CD Key for the products now that the old forums are down?I lost my CDs when I shifted my house and had to borrow the game from a friend.

My email address is andrnbk@hotmail.com under this nick solmyrian in the old forums.I received an email from Aaryn Flynn a few days back saying that my account may have been compromised.

Hey, I am having the same problem as solmyrian. I remember having my CD key stored at bioware was easy for me, as I always lose my CD keys. But now that the forums are gone, is there anyway to recover it? I was planning to do a clean install on my PC soon, as I'm going to have to postpone it til I can reinstall NWN.
