So...the Neverwinter 2011 site is live
« on: June 08, 2011, 02:00:58 pm »

...with some more info, screenshots, forums and even a trailer.

I have to say I am very dissapointed yet not overly surprised.

All what I feared seems to have made it in.

Buttonmashing consoly action style, check. WoW-clone look, check. FPS-style camera, check. Characters constantly moving although standing still, check. Over the top colorful and genetically modified looking monsters, check. Crazy high magic world with flying cities and fighters looking like space marines, check......I could go on but you get the point....

My summary so far: *gaaah*

This looks totally without hope now but I guess there is a theoretical chance still?

The link: http://www.playneverwinter.com/

At least hopefully their forum won't log me out all the time...and it won't ask me three times if I allow that a link be posted that I clearly wanted to post or doing similar....

It gives me the feel of DDO for some reason.  Not at all what I was hoping for.

It gives that feel because it seems to be that.

Do the kids really need yet another D&DO / D&D Daggerdale ?

Appearently they do....

One advantage is would have over NWN2 is that NWN1 is actually in decline, now. All the kids have gone in search of just these kinds of flashy graphics. So, if the toolset isn't complete and total suck, and the download requirements to play aren't silly...it could work as a next-generation platform. But that is, of course, assuming rather a lot.                I am decidedly not a kid, and I find the game interesting enough for what it looks to be. I'm not interested only in possible replacements for NWN (and I can't really imagine a replacement per se), but in other games too. This is an other game, and I'm gonna keep an eye on it.

D&D 4th ed. is what you make of it. Doesn't have to be a con.

I'm taking a wait and see approach..............maybe I should amend that an old and tired approach. They really are not releasing much information on their toolset probably because with NWN and NWN2 they have huge shoes to fill and they know full well that they are associating their game with neverwinter.  So no matter what they say or what they release it will only be tidbits until beta testing hiding most of the stuff until they see what the nwn/da communities say. They are using us as a what is expected resource. It may help it may not. So I'll sit on the fence when the foundry comes out then decide wether to use it or not.

The toolset is secondary. How the game is what is the most important I think.

I mean...what would you do with a toolset for a game that you don't really like?

Great. NWN2 is already unplayable without beastly graphics power. This will be even worse.

D&D 4th Ed PnP already sold out to MMORPG players, this game just makes it official. It will be interesting to see how it competes with WOW or DDO. 4th ed IS a con for dedicated RP players that have outgrown Popomatic Trouble.

NWN1 already has everything an RP gamer could want with none of the unwanted distractions. Now BioWare/WOTC/Hasbro cannot be content until they have rammed every last unwanted distraction down our throats whether we like it or not - in an effort to kill off NWN so they can sell us something else. That is their prerogative I guess.

I knew they'd never make a game like NWN, but the problem was, how much of a mess were they going to make of it?

From the looks of it, its just gonna be another big flashy game, and thats a disappointment.

But then again, thats how big companies work. Look at Westwood, DICE, etc.
