The inevitable is coming...

I'm confident NWN has plenty of life in it still. If I wasn't confident of that, I wouldn't be spending hours upon hours every day working on a new PW for it.

This is, frankly, the best place to get highly immersive roleplay. No other game can compete. The reason the numbers are dwindling is probably because NWN isn't advertised at all. Most just don't know it exists - it's a bit of a hidden gem of roleplaying goodness.

As a returning old player and new member on these forums, this is my first post. Perhaps this is the most appropriate thread on which to make this bold declaration.

I bought NWN Gold in June 2003 when the Linux client was first released, and played it straight through to 2005... bought Neverwinter Nights Diamond a few years ago to try out the Premium modules and relatively new CEP...

Then I got into NWN2 for awhile. some friends suggested that it was a worthy successor to NWN, but that was not my experience. The interface was klunky, and for all its fancy graphics had to play with all the fancy bells and whistles turned off and still it was choppy. NWN1 is by far the better game - it sings even with all graphics sliders cranked to the right. The CEP provides more than enough functionality to supersede NWN2,

Now I have the itch again., but I can no longer find the install media nor the paper with CD keys on it, and the CD key stored on my Bioware account was from 2003 (I must have registered my earlier NWN:D under a different account - can't remember). So I bought it again.

Point is: I do not regret buying NWN: Diamond yet again. This game that spawned a community has come farther than its creators ever could have brought it by themselves. Everyone still playing NWN should be proud of what they have accomplished as a community - BioWare/EA/Origin/WOTC/Hasbro notwithstanding.

I am going through some hassle with BioWare trying to get my new CD keys registered, but once that settles, you can expect to see me on a few of the PW's discussed here. That is the frontier where NWN exists now.

Sorry playneverwinter, but I cannot and will not play D&D 4th ed anything - any more than I could go back to 1st ed AD&D now. 3.5 is the high water mark of D&D for all time. This is where I have chosen to make my stand. See you out there.

Great post motorhead. I totally agree with you about 4e... boycotting everything released in it.

I actually bought the fourth edition core books, but for a variety of reasons I won't be using them. My classic campaign is staying on OSRIC and my 3.5 campaign is being migrated to Pathfinder. I won't be using 4th edition at all.

Word.

Pathfinder is the true successor to 3.5, hands down.

I would love to see another NWN based on Pathfinder!

Good exchanges...that alone speaks that NWN1 is not dead..maybe weak but not dead. I started playing the single player games..got through the first two but the glitches in Hotu threw me off. I tried on line and was put off by the rapid log on and die mentality of the action PW's. I hooked up with an RP server and for five years I never looked back at a single player game or another game engine. Had to have NWN2..graphics card couldnt run it, got bored quit 2 all together.  Starting building in the aurora toolset...OMG!  making your own game?  So cool. Need to up grade video card though.

Got my son of 20 some years on a start up server...he was hooked..he logged more hours in a year than i did in five!  He still plays.

Currently working on second start up server, after creating my own operable PW/server.

This is NWN1 community is truly a dinosaur in the gaming world...one that wont die and one that seems to have appeal even to some young folks..we all like fantasy and RP'ing with some of the best folks in the world!

The work done by this community is unmatched anywhere in gaming or even non gaming worlds. The creativity that was started and perpetuated and even now thrives is what keeps me loving this world of NWN1.

I have to believe at this point its the people...the game has taken backseat to the experience of meeting and RP'ing with some really fine folks. The sniping, the griefing, and the heated debates are all part of a wonderful experience in the cyber world of on line gaming.

Thank you all for making this such a wonderous experience that seems new and exciting with each day. Never gets old for me..and me?  I'm not getting old and I'm not dying either...see you all in game!

Excuse me sunny. Mind saying that again? '<img'>
