Henchman XP Penalty.
« on: February 26, 2011, 09:30:35 pm »

Hello, is it possible to remove the henchman XP penalty for the original campaign? Googling around, I came upon this: http://nwvault.ign.c....detail&id=5646 which apparently includes such an option as a customization, but I'm not sure how to apply it to the OC, or if it's possible t oapply only that mod withouth incorporating the rest. Has anyone successfully done so?

               Why?

(It's sounds possible, so it is. I  just read something about servers offering the feature, but where...)
Ok, not sure it's related but hey...

Here...

No idea, no tech here. But it's posssible, and that my friend, is everyhting.
Now, it only depends on you.
How much you want it.

I wouldn't fight for it. I think it's fair, sharing is costing.

My main beef is the same reason as indicated there: Players are beign penalized making use of their class abilities, be they animal companions, familiars and/or spells. If it were only for the henchmen I'd be ok with it.

I checked on your first link, and it doesn't seem easy, loads of questions floating around...
But I'm no tech, no tech at all.
Maybe in a more technical forum?
(I barely ever used familiars. 'cause I didn't want the xps go away either. then I realised how beautiful they could be... therefore expensive.)
Just cheat and gain some 1 or 2 extra levels?

Mmm, so should I post this in the technical support forum?
Of course I know I could just use the console and add 1 or 2 levels, but I wanted to try a more"organic" approach '<img'>

Right, but maybe not the "technical" forum which is for asking about thr regular NWN I believe, try more the Modules, Scripting, Tavern kind of ones, speaking with module makers, wizards.
They'd know overthere, otherwise... maybe switch to "unorganic", '<img'>, & just don't tell anyone.

It's not actually a penalty.  It's balancing.  A character that manages to survive a hostile situation alone SHOULD receive more of a reward.  All the adjustment to XP does is approximate the portion of the reward that would have been shared by other party members.  If there is actually any intentional penalization, it is possibly due to the fact that a character who chooses to express its combat prowess by enlisting an army to fight at its side is not as adept (or perhaps, brave) as one who steps into the fray without reinforcements at the ready.  Hence, the designer's attempt to balance that choice.  Seems reasonable to me.

Like I said, I would've been ok if this applied only to henchmen, since they're essentially forming a party, but the fact is familiars/summons/animal companions (all of them creatures obtained through the use of a class feature) also drain XP. I do know my players would be up in arms (and I would too as a player, with good reason) if I ruled that their companions/summons were an XP "black hole" draining their precious points. It is in fact one of the key issues raised in the CR/XP section: companions/summons don't count towards the XP rewards because they're already taken into consideration as class abilities.

mos that is admirable of you, though they should drain xp.  You have just made the wizard or sorc the most profitable class in the game because, not only can they kill herds of monsters in one shot, they also now have a free meat shield.  FIghters cant do either (mass kill in one shot, or summon a partner).
