               A couple years ago I purchased a copy of vanilla Neverwinter Nights from HPB. It was in good condition, came with the map and manual and even a manual for Shadows of Undrentide (not sure what that was doing there, but whatever). Unfortunately I was very busy at the time and never got around to trying the game, and it ended up getting buried among a lot of other things after I moved a couple times.

Well, I finally stumbled across it again, and decided to try it out for the first time. Started with disc 1, moved on to disc 2... and then it asked for the Play disc. Well, I checked my box inside and out and for the first time realized that whoever sold the game to HPB had kept that back so they could keep playing.

Curses. Can't really blame the store, I don't expect them to know what to check for, and I didn't have any idea anything was missing until just now.

Whether or not that is the case, the OP seems to have only been given 2 of the 3 necessary disks for the game. Unfortunately unless there's some way of installing the full game ("minimal install" maybe?) with only 2 disks and then using the Critical Rebuild patch from the old site nwn.bioware.com it looks like you may have just been screwed over.

Although, in either case, since you've only got the vanilla copy of the game and the true joys of NWN mostly lie in the community made single player mods and online worlds rather than the packaged stuff - and for the most part require the expansions - I'd reccomend at least considering a copy of Diamond Edition from GOG.

               It certainly is amazing how folks make statements without facts.  So far, the op stated that He used disc 1 and 2, and was asked for the play disk.  He never stated that he did not have any other disk etc.  From his statement, it appears that he did get a full install either, so he can't patch up to 1.69.  However, his statement said that he was missing the play disk, my reply explained that he was NOT missing the play disk.  The play disk is disk one..

               I have my original NWN which I've had for over 8 years. It has an Installation Disc 1 and 2, and a Play Disc. Erunion is correct in his description.  Protestations that Installation Disc 1 is the Play Disc on the Original NWN is in error.

Hey, that actually worked, thanks. Now I just need to figure out why the game crashes whenever I click on that first guy I see in the first area.

I actually was considering the Diamond Edition on GoG - just figured since I already have this, might as well try it out first. Noticed on Wikipedia there's some content not included even in Diamond; is there any legit way to get that yet?

We would have to know what content you are talking about.  Do you have a link to the wikia page?

If you are talking about the Premium modules, No there is currently no legal way to get new copies of them.   They have been a topic of much debate around here.
