What next. Suggestions please
« on: November 25, 2010, 04:31:21 am »

               Just finished NWN OC.
I have the Diamond Edition which includes as you know
Shadows of Undrentide
Hordes of the Underdark
Kingmaker
ShadowGuard
Witches Wake.
Questions:
Is there any order I should play these in?
Are they all worth playing?
In the Diamond Edition are they all patched to the latest patch?
Can I bring my Fighter from the OC over to these addons?
Thanks in advance'Posted

PS Looking forward to playing NWN 2, heard some where it was a little better than 1.

               Hi Chiefsonny, SoU will need a new character but then you can take either character on into HotU.  I wasn't too impressed with the others, at least one of them isn't finished, but the beauty of this game is that someone else will think they are wonderful.  Get yourself over to NWVault where you will find over 1000 solo modules to drop into your module folder, then try the multi player (NwN's jewel in the crown) making this the best value game in the history of games!!!

As for your unrepeatable last sentence, go wash your mouth out with soap sir!

               You should patch your game to the latest version (1.69), it should fix some errors in SOU and HOTU.

 Order? SOU and HOTU after. The premium mods haven't any connection to the other modules.

 Worth? SOU and HOTU... yes. I like Witch Wake, but it's unfinished >_<   Kingmaker and Shadowguard... I don't like them.

 As for playing NWN2... if you want a game with better graphics, go ahead, if you are looking for a better game, stay in NWN1  '<img'>

Sorry '<img'>

Since it's my first time with the NWN series, I know very little about 2. I remember reading that somewhere. Amazon I think?

I have NWN 2 and MotB expansion pack unopened sitting on my desk. Also my wife brought me DragonAge Origins for my birthday (this Sat) so I have it staring at me to. Was trying to decided which one to play first after I finish up with the NWN expansions.

Since I got NWN2 last year, was going to get that one out of the way.

By the way, I used Dove soap. Had a better taste. '<img'>

               The NWN vs. NWN2 thing... It's been heatedly discussed many times before and it's a Pandora's box best left shut. The answer naturally will depend on whether you ask in the NWN community or the NWN2 community. In the end it's just a matter of opinion, both games have their merits and flaws. NWN2 did some things better but sadly also a few things worse.

One opinion that's a little less controversial and more widely accepted even among NWN community members is that NWN2 has the better Single Player campaign compared to NWN's OC and henchmen/party members are handled in a more interesting way, a bit similar to Baldur's Gate 2 (as for NWN's Add-Ons though, HotU is a great campaign, too).

If you just stick to officially released Single Player content, who knows, there's a chance you might like NWN2 better. But you haven't really played NWN unless you've taken a look at the best free custom campaigns or Multiplayer.

               The thing about NWN2 that I can not say about NWN is the fact that I completed the OC in NWN2 two times and never have I finished the OC in NWN. Also the expansion Mask of the Betrayer, for me, was one of the my all time best RPG's I absolutely LOVED it! '<img'>

I guess I could also say that I absolutely loved HOTU as well as I am playing it again right now...

               HotU was when we finally got our heads together on how to make good NWN content.  I still feel guilty about the original NWN campaign.  We had some good ideas, we just didn't finish the technology in time to really do a good job on them.

Sadly, I've never even played NWN2.  I'd have to say after seven years working on NWN I just couldn't look at another interpretation of our concept.

               @Xenovant
technically  kingmaker, witches wake and shadowguard were all unfinished, as they all just suddenly cut-off before any resolution comes. Kingmaker was the only one that had something resembling and end to it.
@Chiefsonny
i agree with Xenovant, NWN 2 is graphically better..beyond that it's only improvement was the ability to take control of your henchmen.
   NWN 2's OC is utterly boring, by comparison to NWN 1. I hear Mask of the Betrayer was better though.  From what i've read, in order to get the "good ending" in NWN 2's OC you have to romance someone less then . . .tolerable.  i've only gotten a little less then half way done with the campaign before quitting. a ton of the mages spells are exactly the same every level, which sucks.  In order to actually romance Elanee, you'd have to leave every other henchmen in Neverwinter, or they'll just leave you without backup, basically they all hate her that much.  the evil aligned ranger( i forget his name, bishop was it?) i don't know how to really get that romance going . . .nor at this point do i care to.  after getting updates it corrupted the original save, and i've just gotten horribly bored with it shortly after getting to neverwinter from the swamps.
basically for me to finish NWN 2..obsidian would have to pay me $50, and then sit here with a gun to my head to make sure i didn't just take the money and skip out on them. ':bandit:'

Hey! You're one of those ':wizard:'? I wanted to thank you.
You didn't make it as perfect as you wished? That's surprising for a human being!
Failure is the only full success available.
Good job.

*waves to the Hulk*

HotU is indeed excellent! But the shining star of NWN1 for me was not any of the solo mods, but the included  tools which made m/p gaming not only possible, but highly enjoyable.

Best wishes!

Well, you have at least one staunch fan of the OC.  No.  Make that at least 4 because my nephews are constantly bugging me to play it with them as a MP LAN, something that is basically impossible with HotU.

What seems to go unnoticed is that it is the only one of the 3 Bio campaigns that is totally gliche-free (if one follows the rules, that is) and doesn't require a 2gig hak to run it.  And that counts for a lot in my book.  I love the expansiveness of the OC design and its focus on class balancing.  Hindsight is always 20-20, especially when under the gun of getting content released for public consumption, marketing and all that. Community content has an essentially open-ended release schedule (unless otherwise self-imposed!) so the pressures are quite different.

You guys did a great job all-around IMO.  Thank you!

               @Muric

I didn't know that kingmaker and shadowguard are unfinished, the truth is that I have only played them a little because I didn't like the story '<img'>   I have played all the premium mods but I have finished only 3: witch's wake, pirates of the sword coast and wyvern's crown of cormyr (a shame that the story of wyverns is unfinished too)

               @ the OP:

I'd ignore everything in your list there and start downloading from the vault. Get Savant's Saga of Aielund, and Fantus' Lords of Darkness. Adam Miller's Shadowlords-Dreamcatcher series is also very good.

My two cents on the other discussion: Count my vote for liking the NWN OC. I replay it frequently, usually once or twice a year at least. I think the story is good, contrary to what seems to be the majority opinion. I'd say more about exactly what I like about the story, but this is no-spoilers. The OC gets two thumbs up from me.
