... Wow, and I thought I am the only one who couldn't manage to submit! And it went almost double since you announced the "last chance" '<img'>

As a friendly reminder to those who may be new to using the toolset: do make regular manual backup copies of your module. The "restore from backup" feature of the toolset will often leave modules corrupted, and if the toolset happens to crash while it is saving your module, much of your work may be permanently corrupted depending on what point it crashed at during the process.

Damn, I wish I have read this thread earlier...

I had exactly that (the module getting corrupted) happen on November 21st... Thankfully, it got corrupted only towards loading it to NWN, but still editable, so I managed to export most of its contents...

.... DANG... I dunno if it'd count past deadline, but I have to re-submit due to a major (and totally idiotic) bug making it impossible to complete...

Also, there's a walkthru there now, too.

As much as I'd like to add stuff to my mod, I think leaving it in the state it was at deadline is the fairest thing to do... that said, I may add the stuff I wanted and post it to the vault for a bit of fun.

The contest had the feeling of the build we all did for NWN2 Halloween... which sounds like a great way to keep some building interest alive and possibly growing for folks new to NWN.

We could all submit an area for a themed mod... put limits on things.. then link them together... heck perhaps the theme could be a function of the toolset... so we could see how different builders tackle different problems.. without hak packs.. that way new builders could also learn from the more experienced hands...

Perhaps 4 times a year? ... perhaps a GOG t-shirt to the area deemed most worthy of a t-shirt (only can win the shirt once... but given a special zone for areas of past winners??) I dunno.. just rambling about stuff.

Long Live NWN!!!

I agree, such contests are a great opportunity to encourage people who haven't ever submitted anything before to try and learn building, or even those who don't have time or drive to build a full scale module but might create enjoyable mini-mods. It's something that can draw in new blood and keep the community alive (but also drain and exhaust certain members for a while;)).

IMO, we could handle such contests on our own and we wouldn't need any prizes (see the NWN Custom Content Challenge) although I'm not sure how much interest and motivation there would be without the promise of 5 free games. I'd like to think it doesn't matter but you never know. (The good thing is: The community always wins and gets several new games for free, no matter the outcome.'<img'> )

How much of a change is necessary? I did receive a query about giving someone more time for their module and I did say "no" as it would provide an extra benefit to the contestant and I like to keep things fair and simple.

However, what you seem to be asking for is a fix to a very critical bug which, if not addressed, effectively eliminates you from the contest.

So, perhaps you can outline the problem in more detail. Is it a script that is broken?

Well... hmmm... I took out all the stuff that was causing trouble because I didn't have the time to fix it and still make the deadline. I could have chosen to leave in the bugs and make things look and sound really neat.. and fulfill a bunch of other things I was going to do... but then I'd have submitted a module that didn't work...

I think your instinct of saying, "no" is a good one. ... as this is a contest with actual prizes.. If you want to give all entrants a "polish it up" deadline.. where we all get some more time.. but no new entries are allowed.. well.. that seems a bit more fair.... but still not that fair as others probably re-arranged their schedules and made module decisions based on the original deadline.

I did a total brain fart and didn't take into account the time change for the deadline and discovered the problem with about an hour to go before deadline... I had built my areas.. and dabbled with some of my ideas.. but in effect, I built all the stuff in the mod in one hour.. I thought I would have 8 hours... so.. my entry, while working, isn't really what I envisioned.

Will I win? I doubt it... I know with 7 more hours I would have a much better shot.

Will I be upset if you let someone fix a bug? Not too much... it's all for fun. But I think it's opening up a can of worms.

Yes. It is a can of worms...

After reading your post what really hit me was that this is, indeed, a real contest with real prizes. And that is a very good point.

So I think I will go with the original entry as above all else, it is important that everyone is treated equally. And everyone had the same amount of time to create and test their creations. It seems some people did start late but that cannot be a factor in the decision making process.

I hope, and I think that, Cheeseshire cat's entry is only broken at the end (judging by his post). So it will have to be judged up until that point.

Say, Cheeseshire, would you like to join me in finishing our mods and kinda making a community module with all the entries .. at least with those that agree?

We could make a common area that connects to each person's mod... That way those of us that released before we wanted to would get a bit of redemption and the community would get one cool, eclectic way to experience all of our efforts.

Those that finished in time wouldn't have to do any more work (except agree and submit).. and those of us that wanted to finish would still have to do the work to finish..

I dunno.. It seems like we all had fun making these things.. I think this might help us all leave this awesome event with a feeling of satisfaction.

... and without something like this.. I'm likely to leave my mod in it's roughshod state.. which would be a shame..

FUN!!!! With all those restrictions and a deadline I had as much fun as having a 40 kilo Halibut squashed up my left nostril ''. Fun indeed. Harumph!  '<img'>

On a more serious note (A# actually), I intend to wait until after the results before I decide what to do with my entered mod.

I like the idea of merging the mods, but it coul be difficult in many regards. Just one thing of the top of my head: My mod is created around the provided character. Her fighting abilities, her name, her gender and of course her equipment '<img'>
Maybe there are ways around (spawning in the required equipment, level ups and downs), but it depends on all the other mods and the characters for them. If I remember correctly, you need a character with magical abilities for CheeseshireCat's mod etc.
Maybe there is a way to host all entries on one vault entry or they make at least a news with links to all the mods. Much depends on the additional work, each of us is willing to put into such a mod.

So the long and short of it: Just let us wait and see '<img'>

@Tyndral - if you don't fancy the Halibut, beware the cod. Ye gods! I'll never try that again!
