May I ask, why the "No teams" rule? That's another hurdle for people with limited spare time on their hands and it's so much more fun to do it when you're not alone. NWN should be all about working together, not everyone for himself. And that would be an important lesson for newcomers, too. I don't agree that team work gives builders an advantage more crucial than the advantage people with a lot of spare time already have over people with a lot of real life chores, or the advantage NWN veterans have over newbies when it comes to finding ways to circumvent the strict rules (which you explicitly stated as one of the challenges in the contest). On the contrary, team work might make it easier for new builders to compete with the veterans, once they realize that.
Besides, anyone can use scripts that were written by other people, anyone can get inspired by ideas of other people and how would you even ensure someone did his or her module completely without help? With team work forbidden I don't think this contest is much fun and I'm doubtful a lot of community members will join it,..
You are absolutely right! But so am I!
I mentioned this in a previous thread somewhere (here or GOG) but there isn't a right way and a wrong way to run a contest IMHO. Well, there are some wrong ways but there is more than one right way.
When it comes to "No teams" I'm going with my gut. The actual parameters are fairly simple so that newcomers can make something simple. A newcomer that is a good storyteller can really shine in this contest. It is not a contest to see who can come up with the cleverest scripts or use the best tricks. Because it involves new and old players, you don't want to just hand over the prizes to the vets because they know what they're doing.
On top of that, even people that can only spare a few hours out of the whole month can still get this done.
However, I'm going to cut you a deal. I'm intrigued by your last comment. I don't know why people would be so averse to a contest that requires not too much effort and great prizes simply because they couldn't team up.
So this is what I'm going to do. If four teams (only needs two members) are willing to sign up for the contest
AND
No one in either community objects
We can have teams.
All the members of each team must post here in this thread. The team leader needs to identify his team members and state how many of the five games each member gets.
