I am SOOO looking forward to seeing the entries from this.  You folks really gotta shake a tailfeather (and I mean that) and get going.  Like Banshe said, show those GOG.com newbies what a 'real' module is like.

Almost finished the first version of my module, so I'll be able to spend the next few weeks tweaking to try and make it as good as possible. I had a question though: how do you create the character file to be included with the module? The only way I can think of is to play a character through the game up to the level I want, but I assume there's some easier way of doing it? Thanks

You could use a module like the Pretty Good Character Creator to level up your PC without playing, then export it and retrieve the character file from the localvault directory to include with your file submissions.

Can't a moduler build a PC out of the toolset only to make him/her as "special" as he/she desires?

When you guys are saying the PC can not be haked nor "LETOed", this is where my question above is getting answered, right?

I've been playing many new modules lately, and the most interesting thing in them was, most of the time, the hero... A new type of hero, with green hair and some style, if not attitude...

Regular "old fashion" heroes might tend to be a little annoying in such an ambitious 2010 contest nowadays...?

This is a really cool contest. Unfortunately it's not likely I'm going to be able to enter, but good luck to everyone else!

Personally I just created a "cheating" NPC in the module that gives me 2000 xp every time I talk to him. So the first time I logged into the module I just leveled up to the appropriate level. Then saved the character (press ESC).

Just don't forget to remove the "cheating" NPC before you release the module :-P

Then you must have been pleased to learn that there is a module making contest as well as a modelling contest. 'Posted

Some questions over at the GOG forums have been left unsanswered so far, can anyone here help to clarify?

Question by Drezdar:
a) Does "no more than five conversations" mean "a maximum of five conversation scripts"? Like, if I use a conversation script for an introductory message or whatever, does that count against the limit? If I have a few inanimate objects that the player can interact with via a conversation script, do those count against the limit, or is there a certain tree depth I cannot exceed so they won't count toward the limit? [Let me add to that: What about talking implented by scripting? And are one-liners considered conversations?]

Question by Drezdar:
'B)' Does "no more than three areas" literally mean no more than three area objects in the module, or no more than three area transitions? Or is it acceptible to have one of your areas be multi-leveled (say a small two-story dungeon) which would require an extra area and transition (via stairs). The two area objects would, narratively speaking, comprise a single area, but from a technical perspective it would comprise two area objects. "

Question by myself:
c) 10 hostile creatures, 3 friendly NPCs - so what about neutral animals or citizens who don't speak (more than one-liners) and who don't fight but are only there to make the setting more alive? Do contestants have to renounce them?

Thanks Olivier. I went there before coming here and answered those questions.

As for your question: No movie extras. '<img'> Perhaps part of the story could explain why a city or tavern is empty. The DRM monster ate them... '<img'>

               @Banshe - Quick question

Do the rules limit the number of corpses (i.e. dead! dead! dead!) people, creatures, monsters etc? If I can't have birds flying in the sky in the sky...

May I ask, why the "No teams" rule? That's another hurdle for people with limited spare time on their hands and it's so much more fun to do it when you're not alone. NWN should be all about working together, not everyone for himself. And that would be an important lesson for newcomers, too. I don't agree that team work gives builders an advantage more crucial than the advantage people with a lot of spare time already have over people with a lot of real life chores, or the advantage NWN veterans have over newbies when it comes to finding ways to circumvent the strict rules (which you explicitly stated as one of the challenges in the contest). On the contrary, team work might make it easier for new builders to compete with the veterans, once they realize that.

Besides, anyone can use scripts that were written by other people, anyone can get inspired by ideas of other people and how would you even ensure someone did his or her module completely without help? With team work forbidden I don't think this contest is much fun and I'm doubtful a lot of community members will join it,..

Ah... A fellow Nordockian... Typical... 'Posted

j/k

If it is hostile, it counts as one of 10 monsters. If it is a merchant, commoner or defender, it counts as an NPC. If it is dead, dead, dead, it is a placeable... 'Posted

And don't get clever with custom factions to beat the system... 'Posted
