Bueller?  As in Faris Bueller from the hit movie Better off Dead?

Wrong movie.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off is from 86 and while a great movie Better Off Dead with John Cusak was IMHO better just for the iconic line of

If you're getting a strong sense of deja vu at the title up above, we can't blame you -- after all, we've been covering this supposed MMO announcement for a couple years now. However, a pair of recent developments have led us to believe that Atari is on the verge of announcing the long-anticipated Neverwinter Nights MMO.

The first piece of concrete news is a brief statement from the recent GenCon Indy, where Critical-Hits.com went to a D&D products seminar and heard the representatives state that Atari has an upcoming D&D video game. Unfortunately, they were unable to obtain any further information about it at the convention.

Following up on this statement, Superannuation did a bit of digging and discovered that Atari recently purchased a slew of domain names, including visitneverwinter.com, playneverwinter.com and neverwintergame.com. Add these facts together with the promised announcement of Cryptic's new MMO this summer, and we could be hearing official confirmation of a Neverwinter Nights MMO any day now. Stay tuned!

A comment at Gen Con and a few unusual domain registrations have the internet whispering that Atari is getting ready to announce a new Neverwinter Nights.
It was all the way back in 2002 when BioWare and Atari released Neverwinter Nights, BioWare's first game after wrapping up the epic Baldur's Gate saga. Three expansions and countless fan-made mods followed, as did a sequel in 2006, which earned three official expansions of its own. And now it looks like maybe, possibly, we might be getting more.
Rumor Component Number One: According to Critical Hits, Atari let slip at Gen Con that it "has an announcement about some kind of D&D videogame," but couldn't talk about it at the time.
Rumor Component Number Two: As uncovered by superannuation, Atari recently registered several suspicious-sounding new domains, including visitneverwinter.com, neverwinter-game.com, playneverwinter.com and saveneverwinter.com.
Put the two together and what you end up with looks very much like a finger pointed squarely at the northern region of Faerun. While we wait for Atari to drop the other shoe, meanwhile, I'm keeping my own fingers crossed. Nothing I'd like better than some fresh, frozen D&D action. Stay tuned.

Um, why would I pay for something I can already play for free? I suppose the disgruntled might make for new NWN1 customers though '<img'>
