NWN availability.
« on: August 18, 2010, 12:25:58 am »

I've been noticing in many post lately where people will mention things like "Just go buy the game. It's only like $10." or "Some stores still carry it but if you can't find one in the store then just buy one online for like $15."

Well i decided recently to buy a second copy of the game for my kid and discovered something a bit scary.

I don't want to start a panic or anything:O but:

-I don't think any stores still carry the game brand new.
-You will most likely want to buy the Platinum, Diamond, or Deluxe(UK version) version of the game so that you get all 3(main and 2 expansions). And you will want a brandnew copy so that you don't get stuck with stolen, used or invalid CD keys. However most online stores that were offering the game for under $30 are sold out or have it on backorder.
-I found a brandnew Diamond copy that cost me about $40 after shipping. And it was one of 3 available.
-The game is not available in any kind of digital download either.(my search turned up nothing)

I guess what I'm trying to say is that  Neverwinter Nights is getting very hard to find brand new. And if you do find one brand new it is now closer to $40 with shipping. In some cases people are selling it for as much as $60 used.

I just figured I'd bring this to the attention of this community in case anyone wants another copy for whatever reason but has been putting it off. I think if anyone wants a copy they better grab one really soon.

And who knows if they will ever re-release the game in some other edition later.

Anyway. Just figured I'd throw that out there. Good luck.

I've noticed that too, and can't find any more copies at the my local game stores.  It'd be nice to see a re-release of the game or a digital distribution of it, but if I'm not mistaken, theres some legal mumble jumble for some absurd reason that is in the way.

Here in the UK I can still go into our local supermarket and buy the deluxe edition on a budget lable for less than 10ukp. What I find scary is that it isn't sold on a budget lable in the usa (does that country have budget lables?), at least according to amazon.com which I just checked in the middle of writing this.

               Just did a small search nothing major and these sites popped up as for sale with copies;

http://www.shared2u....nd-edition.html

http://www.bestbuy.c...reInventoryLink

http://www.amazon.co...p_ob_vg_title_1

Also typing it into craigslist I came up with 147 links JUST today.

http://spacecoast.cr...1898966774.html

http://inlandempire....1875350541.html

Some places I also found them at Thrift Stores and resell shops.

               Hey there TSMDude.

Sure there are plenty of used versions and perhaps a few torrents. I was referring to unused, brand new, legal copies though. Otherwise people might run into the CD Key problems. Which leaves your third link as the best option. Which has only five copies starting at $33.

Your second link shows what i was talking about. $19.99 Backordered.
when I think of buying something from craiglist I imagine one of those rogue shop in game. '' Never know what you are getting yourself into.

UK Deluxe version is probably the cheapest option. I hope there aren't any CD/DVD Drive region issues though.

Amazon seems to be just about the only place you can reliably get the game anymore. Since 1.69 you no longer need the disks... it'd be wonderful if Bioware would begin selling valid keys through this site. Most of us in the PW scene could ramp up something to provide the game ISOs, if valid keys were available for purchase.

I would absolutely love if Atari sold digital copies of NWN through online means such as Steam, Goodoldgames (GOG), or any other online distributors. It would save the hassle of trying to find physical copies of the game which as we all know, is growing increasingly difficult to do.

Let me be frank here, candid even, bioware permitting...

It would be a travesty not to re-release this game...

First and foremost, this game has morphed into something NO OTHER GAME OFFERS>>>!!!!

NWN is without a doubt the best damn RPG ever made, for 3 major reasons..

1) Community Content  is 2nd to none!
2) Though graphics aren't stellar - SOME modules are a piece of ART!!!
3) The game is 1000 Times what it was when it was first released!!!

If they were to re-release the game, give it a new packaging, and maybe fix some major issues with the game, it should automatically be 1.69 in the new release, and finally make it windows 7 compatible out of the box with multi-core processing, even I would be willing to pay $50 for the game again, no bs about it!

Even if they aren't willing to rework coding and revise the core code to be more up to date, I think they would do the world a HUGE favor by re-releasing the game, because NWN is just too damn good to be forgotten...  (Those aren't fanboy words, that's a fact jack!)

Because it's a Forgotten Realms Game which expands deep into the heart of many other systems and worlds, no other game compares to the depth of NWN, period...

So why not put the game back on the shelves?? ((No It's NOT there anymore.)

By the way, is it still possible to buy NWN 1 premium modules? I'd like to try Infinite Dungeons, but I really can't find it anywhere.

I think it's the lack of talk/replies from the big "Bioware Team" that has me scared...

Premium Mods are no longer for sale.

You can get used, but unopened copies of the game on Ebay/amazon for like 10 dollars.

Genisys, Bioware has no way to re-release nwn.  Atari has full publishing rights, other than the fact that Atari would have to pay Bioware some sort of per copy monies depending on how good their contract was with Atari.  Regardless of how much they could make, Atari would also have to wish to publish, and they have proven over and over again, how little they think of the community around here.

If you read the posts on their forums, they seldom even provide tech support, and seldom answer any questions even on games that are currently being sold.

I would also expect that they would have to re-negotiate with WotC regarding releasing any new versions of NWN, even just remaking the same old versions etc...  Since they are in the middle of a lawsuit with . WotC, you can expect that "permission denied" would be the answer.

So, beyond the above, expecting Bioware to weigh in here and state something that they have already stated many times since Atari pulled the rug out from under them, is sort of a waste of time and typing.

Whatever remains on store shelves, or inventory can be sold, but nothing more can be produced without significant influx of money for that production, and whatever licensing fees WotC and/or Bioware would require.  Since Atari is nearly bankrupt, they can't be expected to garner much faith money from financial institutions to even cover the production costs of a re-release.

This whole thing has been discussed, and beaten to death, for the past 3 years.  Please let it die.

The gaming world would be a much better place without the whole corporate fanaticism of lawsuit this, lawsuit that; I'm not going to release this because I want to promote that; copyrights belong to whos and whatnots; permissions; negotiations; making big bucks; and so on and so on.

Here we have a piece of art buried beneath a pile of money and white collared egotism that shall, perhaps, one day, fade away and be forgotten over time.

I'm sorry I must have had my head buried in the sand somehwere... (Like building a module I guess)

This is all news to me...

lol...

I suppose if I was atari, I'd sell my rights, AND FAST....  (If my business was going under)
(Did you notice I spelled atari without the Capital haha, as in money?)

Back on Subject, I think I saw a copy of NWN Diamond at Micro Center (The Major Computer Store)

Agree with Bannor. It's not so much Bioware that pulled the rug out from under NWN, but Atari. They're the ones who own NWN's publishing rights. Bioware gave NWN unprecedented support for many years.

@ the OP: I've been getting copies of NWN Diamond at Amazon for $15-20 for a long time. Last time I checked was a few months ago. I just checked again and it's up to $32.95. That's the first time in years that I've actually seen the price go up.
