Where do I choose Cleric domains?
« on: August 16, 2010, 11:57:15 am »

This might be a stupid question, but where do I choose Cleric domains when creating a character? I didn't see anything when I tried making a Cleric.

???   Um *trying to remember* .. it's one of the last screens in character creation iirc.

Oh! did you press the recommended button? It might choose them for you if you do that! (Never ever press that button, the game has no idea what constitutes a good character *grin*).

Have fun '<img'>

I pressed it at the ability screen (strength wisdom and so on), but only there. I also picked the "defult Cleric" pack.
This might be to much to ask, but do you have a screen shoot of it?

EDIT: Nevermind, I found it. And thanks for ansewering!

Glad you found it '<img'>   Picking a package is what I meant by reccomended button. Best not to touch it. You can't make worse choices than that button even if you have no idea what you are choosing and clerics are powerful anyway. Lots of people here will help you choose good feats and tell you how to use skill points when levelling etc if you want some guidance. Just ask '<img'>

crap I hit the recommend button when I was in my game.

Is there a program where I can create a new character, level them up, and pick stats and whatever and insert them into the game?

Console commands will allow you that.

How does one use the console to change PC feats, skills, domains, etc? I know it's easy to change ability scores, but how would one handle the rest of the issues caused by letting the game choose defaults during character creation?

By relevelling or in this case, new character and level up via console (OP didnt stated how far is he, so I guessed not so far)

You can use the console to re-level from zero and re-choose starting feats, domains, etc? I don't think that works...

BTW, seventhslayer , there are a couple ways to do what you seem to want. You can create a new character and pop him into the game where your current character is. I believe there is a link on how to do that in jmlzemaggo's list. You can also use tools like Leto to modify the stats (starting feats, domains, skill points spent) of your current character in the saved game. If you are further into the game, the latter solution may be preferable, since it can be done without losing quest-related information stored on your character.

As I said, in this case if he had choosen domains at 1st lvl, new char and level up if he is not far enough will do it. Its the simplest though not so effective way to do that.

You can replace your current PC with any other you wish, as long as you keep the same name I believe. Gender, class, levels, and so on won't matter, including domains. Nothing but the name.

[EDIT] Actually, I might be wrong here. I think I recently switched from a female cleric to a male weapon-master in that funniest of the funniest 'A Harper's Tale'
With different names!
99,99% sure about it.
(The 00,01% left only because I know myself to well.)
[/EDIT]

Look for the:
*32) Shia’s sunniest & brightest trick ever, by Shia Luck (My post N°3.)
in that 1° list in my signature, the one the excellent MrZork, again, suggested.
I'm also afraid domains choices, as ShaDoOoW said, are offered at the very PC creation, before the 1st level even... which calls for a brand new PC, freshly awaken from limbo.
Read carefully what MrZork, again, mentionned about the quests, which I totally forgot about.
Which I must shamefully admit ':crying:'... is quite important.

The only thing that throws a monkey wrench into the "insert-new-character-with-the-same-name-here" scenario are setting the variables. And there are often lots of them.  They can be gender-specific, class-specific, alignment-specific, skill-level specific... you name it.  So that female goody-two-shoes human pally that joins the darkside as a bearded dwarven assassin will no longer be able to use pally- or lawful good-specific items and will notice the males are no longer, ummm... so gullible. '<img'>

Depending on how many convos and quests key on these variables may result in making the new character experience some very odd eventualities.

...unless LETO allows one to access each of the variables stored on the PC like an itemized list?  Wouldn't know.

Leto does allow manipulation of variables stored on the character. (And, I think, to all variables in the module.) But editing them for a campaign like the OC would be tedious, since many of them don't have names (or even values) that describe what they mean to most players. Leto is a very powerful tool, but it's not always quick for doing complicated things. But, I have, for example, changed the values of variables stored on PCs, NPCs, items, triggers, doors, etc, and even once changed the inventory of a merchant in the middle of a saved game.

For the case you mention, it might be tricky in a situation where some aspect of the character may have changed that would alter the quests and so on that the character is in the process of completing. I don't know what would happen if the PC is in the middle of a druid-only quest and he changes class to rogue. But, at least in the OCs, there aren't too many quests like that. If one isn't actually in the middle of such a quest when altering the character, it's not likely to be a problem. It's not going to matter if some completed druid quest is in the PC's journal even if he doesn't have any druid levels.

The benefit of using Leto in this case (if I am understanding our esteemed Buffy fan's issue clearly) is that one can recreate a character level by level (including the first level) and leave the various quest and conversation variables set by the module untouched. But, for a module where the PC isn't already near the end of that chapter, it would be easier to restart that chapter with a new character (and console in the appropriate henchman items, if this is the OC). Probably more fun, too...
